being a college student im not sure how i feel about it honestly.

i am all for CPL's/CCW's. I think that it was cause confusion in a situation. The main thing that concerns me is that lets say someone is carrying illegally in class most people would assume they have there CPL if they happened to notice it somehow, that is my main concern about students having the right to carry in the classroom. i think on campus grounds should be allowed if you are walking on the campus but i think in the buildings it should be illegal.

im all for allowing teachers to carry though.

Are you going to provide a lockbox at the door for the weapons, or would it be an honor system with, say, a post it note with your name on it attached to the guns sitting on the steps?:shaking:

thats why its a concealed carry law. you arent supposed to let people know you have one. if someone sees it, they can still call the police and tell them about it because even if that person has a CCL, they have broken the law by allowing it to be unconcealed. Now, if you spy the ooutline of it through a shirt or jacket, that is not a crime, its still concealed. Thats the law in Texas anyway.

There is also some debate about carrying on some "premesis" (sp?). There was a case a few years ago that defined premesis as being the buildings themselves. Everyone needs to go take the CCL class and learn a shitload about gun laws. There are a lot of things people think they cant do that they can and vice versa.... lilke for instance, did you know you can use deadly force on someone who is vandalizing your property at night? its true. but its only at night. Again, im just talking about Texas law here... but there might be some other surprising laws in other states.

i was talking more of walking through a college campus. seeing as i live 20 yards from a college campus once i can legally obtain my CPL it would be nice to be able to walk through the campus to get to a store or a restaurant because a lot of the time its quicker to walk through campus to get there.

good point. i guess the "bad guys" are going to be carrying either way so mine as well have some student packing with good intentions. Im sure it would provide more good then bad. I guess i was more thinking of the little problems it may cause then the big picture of the good it will help if/when a major life threatening situation occurred.

I guess i will have to look into what "premises" is considered for CPL laws in the state of Michigan when i take my class.

Even Columbine would've been over long before there was any "confusion" issue with the cops showing up, had any of the teachers actually been carrying. Same for VT (although students and teachers could've been carrying at VT, if not for misguided carry laws). The only school violence situation I can think of where "police confusion" might be a valid argument, would be Beslan.

Applied for my CCW permit this morning. My campus does not allow concealed carry. The ignorant liberal attitudes run rampant around here, and include phrases such as "this is how other shootings happened", and "people would just shoot each other when an argument broke out". :shaking:

They're right, it could confuse authorities, that's why you describe yourself to dispatch and disarm yourself when they arrive if you've stopped the threat. You're probably gonna get cuffed and stuffed, but you'll still have a heartbeat.
