: yj dana 60 mount problem
clifford210 11-17-2008, 10:02 PM I am building my jeep pretty much exactly like my friends but he has a dana 44 front end and I went with a 94 ford hp 60. his spring perch is 7 in from the inner knuckle on the drivers side, on the dana 60 i can only go in 3in. before i hit the differential (stock spring perch is close a possible) so I was wondering how do I make it work, yes it is a full width. I have heard of guys cutting the long side down and putting wheel spacers in, does this interfear with the pinion to t-case line up?? I dont want to 3 link it yet not enough money. just wondering what my options were. Cost is always a factor so let me hear what you guys got... thanks...
I am pretty sure if you don't link the front you will need to outboard the front springs. That will probably be cheaper than cutting down the passenger tube and all the work associated with it.
Rubicrawler 11-18-2008, 08:27 AM Outboarding the springs is probably the least expensive solution.

Check out this build thread. It has some good pics of how to outboard your springs. :D

Other than aesthetics, I have nothing against out-boarding the hangers. If it was me and you were I, I'd narrow the axle. If you have the equipment and skill to tackle the hangers then you shouldn't have too much trouble knocking off the inner C, cutting down the tube and resetting the C. The only costly out of pocket expense would be a new long side inner shaft. Also it brings the axle width closer to the 67" more common to 1 ton SRW rear-ends.
clifford210 11-19-2008, 08:15 PM if I outboard the springs will ti take away from my steering at all, I have 39.5 tires so wouldnt it cause my tires to rub alot sooner on the leafs since they are out so far??
barillms 11-20-2008, 05:04 PM You hang the leaf mounts from OUTSIDE the frame rail, rather than under the frame rail. Moving them out, will put your drivers side leaf in the proper place so it won't hit the center housing.
Or you can just cut away some housing and weld your bracket on.
clifford210 11-20-2008, 07:37 PM got it thanks..

No more then any other vehicle running a full width axle. The springs are gonna be the same width apart in your jeep as they were from the donor vehicle. Naturally a larger tire is going to turn less then a smaller tire, theres nothing you can do about it. Your steering will be fine as long as you set it up correctly.
clifford210 11-22-2008, 07:48 PM ok. hmmmm im not sure what to think bout out boarding, just seems like it would be weaker
Boogerking 11-22-2008, 07:52 PM not weaker if done correctly .... I just finshed mine and i have zero concerns on it staying together .... I bought my new perches from balistic .. very beefy
clifford210 11-22-2008, 08:03 PM i dont want to outboard them, what is my next option cut it down? how much?
Subtract your yj's spring width (center to center) from the D60 spring width (center to center) and what remains is the amount of tube you can remove. You have to cut/ grind the weld on the knuckle though, don't just cut the tube. The tube cut needs to be based on the face which is pressed into the knuckle.
What is your rear axle width(wms to wms)?
