: Backpacking
TDbronco 11-18-2008, 02:09 PM So since I have not been able to wheel for the last year as I herniated a disk in my neck I started backpacking again after about 6-8 years off. And man is there a lot of gun threads so I just wanted to mix it up a bit
here is the last trip I just did
Edison Lava trail to Metolius trail Nov 16-17th
So I had my wife drop me off Sunday at 11am at Edison Butt snow park and started out for Lava lake

So the trail was clear for a while then it went from snow areas to clear a lot

This was Little Lava lake at 9.2 miles in

This was Lava lake 10.4 miles in and I got there at 4:45pm with South Sister in the back ground

A funky tree

http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x223/LiLBKO/EdisontoMetoliustrail050.jpg
I came across some Mt lion tracks that was on the trail ahead of me

TDbronco 11-18-2008, 02:10 PM http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x223/LiLBKO/EdisontoMetoliustrail083.jpg
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x223/LiLBKO/EdisontoMetoliustrail063.jpg
Some more Mt Lion tracks I was getting a bit concerned since this thing was still ahead of me and I did not want to have a run in.
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x223/LiLBKO/EdisontoMetoliustrail065.jpg
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x223/LiLBKO/EdisontoMetoliustrail076.jpg
Mt Bachelor
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x223/LiLBKO/EdisontoMetoliustrail081.jpg
South Sister on the left and Broken top on the right
http://i184.photobucket.com/albums/x223/LiLBKO/EdisontoMetoliustrail077.jpg
So 23.5 trail miles and 3.5 road miles since the snow gate is closed for the winter,
mtnkid85 11-18-2008, 02:14 PM looks like fun! I only got out a couple times this summer, but its always nice to get away from it all with just the bag on your back.

Hey I know how it is after herniating my disk in my neck and 8 months of sitting at home I gained 30 lbs but I am happy to say I have lossed that 30 lbs since I started backpacking again this last summer and I am back to 205 lbs and I hope to get down to 185 lbs by the end of next summer.
Doesn't take that long to double the milage you comfortably do either.

Pre-filter :p :flipoff2:
Pre-filter :p :flipoff2:
You know it's bad when you check your hydration bladder and go.. "ya know, we can make it to the next water.. "
and you're carrying a MSR miniworks
TDbronco 11-18-2008, 08:24 PM Yeah I will not drop the wieght of the MSR Mini-works it is a great filter now I like to get my water from creeks and rivers more than lakes because the lakes clog up my filter fast.
NEWMANS OWN 11-18-2008, 08:40 PM cotton Kills.lol
Nice area!
TDbronco 11-18-2008, 08:43 PM Yeah if you don't know what your doing :D I had a base layer in my pack if I needed it :grinpimp: and it only got down to 20 deg so no big deal.
NEWMANS OWN 11-18-2008, 09:00 PM Just busting balls really.lol
You would be suprised how many people running around Namche Bazar with cotton shirts and logos all over them on the way up the mountain. I usually find them coming back down quicker and packless just trying to move to stay warm.lol
P.S. that is a nice area had to take a second look

Yeah I love it out here in Bend :smokin: Also I all ways tell friends not to use cotton cuz it is bad if you are not careful and ready for it but it is comfy to me most of the time.
Yota Up 11-18-2008, 10:14 PM Nice pics. Do any fishing at the lake?
Those look like coyote or dog tracks, due to the claw. Cougar would be oval pads with the lower pad forming an M, which would be hard to see. But the clear claws definately make it look more like canine vs feline. I could be wrong...

The first one did look like a dog at first but no human tracks within 2 miles and it was 3.5"-4" across now it could be a wolf track, But the 2nd one is a Mt Lion it is way to big for a dog at 4"-5" across
