I just got my tub back from being linexed. It looks great!! I can say I have a 100% rust free tub that will not rust again. Ready for paint and then reassembly. I had the linex applied to the inside of the tub and also the complete underside. I also had them wrap it around the bottom edge. It cost me $575.00. It was worth it and looks great. I will try to post a picture. If it does'nt work email me if you interested in seeing it.

looks sweet

only 2 points

one:
the rounded arch, thats je#p-esque needs to be square

and the fact you cut the front of the rear arch, you can leave that and just shift your diff all the way back!! itll feel more stable then

what are your plans for it

i wish i had thought of that when i had mine stripped down, i painted it with cheap sounds deadener and its all flaking off, makes quite a difference in cab though and you wont hear as much road and drivetrain noise

Wow - OK, gotta ask the question, how long did it take to disassemble from the Frame? My tub is - well in need of some work - but seems like a huge freaking job for a realtive newbie. How bad was it?

It took me a long time to decide to cut the rear fenders. After I had completly rebuilt my tub I didn't want to cut them. I will be running 35" tires and had to cut the rear fenders, they would definitly rubbed. The reason I cut them in a circle is because I am going to run rear fender flares from a TJ. I really had a problem putting j**p parts on it but I took the lead from Nolen and others on the TJ fender flares. I find it interesting that the only parts worthy of putting on a cruiser from a j**p are the fender flares, and maybe the rear seat!! The TJ flares are circular on the back side, I cut the fenders to fit. They look great check out Nolens rig. Chris, it will be two years this November since I started disasembly. I never did anything like it before, it is a learn as you go. Bought a sawzall and a welder and started cutting. The 2 years includes a lot of other things -- had the frame dipped and blasted and am istalling a 1997 5.7ltr Vortec with a sm465 tranny and a 3 speed tcase. The drive line is installed and next is to paint the tub and reinstall. The suspension is about 5.25" of lift. 4" springs in the rear and 2.5" extended shackles. The front is 2.5" springs with shackle reversal and 1"extended shackles. I am attaching a picture of the rear pass side fender with the complete cut out. The TJ flares are squared like the origional line just allows enough room for the 35's and maybe 37's later. You will also see the OEM style filler neck I put in for the rear aux tank.

That is some serious dedication to the cause, I can't imagine 2 years under construction. However, it looks great and now will last forever, right? -excluding road -or off-road hazards. thanks for the under construction pics. Something to think about thats for sure.

WHOA, THAT IS SCARY HOW SIMILAR OUR CRUISERS LOOK RIGHT NOW! I JUST FINISHED MY BODY WORK AND PRIMERED AND PAINTED IT GLOSS BLACK! JUST WENT THROUGH THE PROCESS OF FIXIN MY RUST TOO, BUT I DONT HAVE THE $ FOR SOMETHING LIKE THAT, BUT I MUST SAY THAT IS SICK I ALSO AM TRANSPLANTING A 5.7 VORTEC AND MY CRUISER HAS BEEN OUT OF COMMISSION FOR 3 YEARS AND I'VE BEEN WORKING ON IT FOR ABOUT ONE. THATS TOTALLY AWSOME MAN, I DIG IT BIGTIME!

Matt,

I saw your posts before. My cruiser is not going to stay black. I have not decided on a color yet -- something bright. The black you are seeing is Por-15. It still needs primer and paint. Yours looks good. Did you use a sprayer - if so what kind? My Vortec is in the frame where are you at with yours? My next dilemma is the fuel delivery system. Have you given that any thought? I am looking at designing something with a fuel accumulator to make certain the engine is never starved for fuel. I also will have two tanks and can't decide on one feeding the other or both feeding the accululator independently.

Looks Good.

Now I see why it's taking almost 2 years, the Rolling Rock is slowing you down.

Nice!

I Line-X'd mine too, and I can tell you one thing:

You will have a ton of electrical gremelins until you run ground wires to every light and other stock ground! The Line-X is an excellent insulator.

The only other issue I had was fitting the tunnel: the Line-X was not only thick in height off the floor (no problem) but also off the firewall (problem as it changes the alingment of the bolt holes on the other 2 planes (angle down to and the floor). I also had to space out my tailgate hinges with 1/4" plate.

My rig looked so nice after paint and Line-X (it was a CA no rust, no repairs vehicle that I drilled every hole I needed and welded up all the ones I didn't) But - the triple roll in September made me regret it a bit....now I wish I hadn't spent so much time & money on it...

WHEN I PAINTED MINE I WAS CONSIDERING RED, BUT THEN I DIDNT WANT TO KNOCK OFF KATE, AND I HAVE THIS THING FOR BLACK.... I WAS ALSO THINKING ABOUT DOING SOMETHING LIKE THE FOREST SERVICE GREEN, KINDA A DARKER VERSION OF THE FACTORY SEAFOAM... IF YOU WANT TO DO THAT, I HAVE SOME "FOR US GOVERNMENT USE ONLY" AND "DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR national PARKS service" STICKERS I'LL GIVE YA, NO ONE WILL EVER STOP YOU FROM GOING ON A CLOSED TRAIL ;) MY VORTEC RIGHT NOW IS IN AN ENGINE BAG IN MY BROTHERS SHOP, ITS BEEN THERE SINCE IT WAS REBUILT ABOUT 4 MONTHES AGO. I'M USING A HOLLEY PROJECTION SYSTEM BECAUSE THE ENGINE DID NOT COME WITH THE FUEL INJECTION OR HARNESS, AND I LIKE THE STAND ALONE AND EASY TUNING SIMPLICITY OF IT. I MAY RUN A 20 GAL FUEL CELL IN THE BED, BUT I REALLY DONT WANT TO BECAUSE I NEED THE SPACE FOR CAMPING GEAR AND PEOPLE. MY STOCK TANK IS SHOT, I MAY HAVE TO MAKE MY OWN, I HAVE NO UNDERSEAT SPACE BECAUSE I HAVE SOME ELECTRIC SEATS FROM A XJ THAT I really WANT TO USE, BUT THE BRACKETS TAKE UP TOO MUCH SPACE. I THINK I'M NOT SURE IF IM GOING TO RUN AN ACCUMULATOR, I THINK FOR NOW I WILL HOPE THE CELL AND HOLLEY PUMP WILL KEEP THE ENGINE FED, AND I'LL TRY AND KEEP THE CELL FULL. OH YEH, AND WHEN I PAINTED, I USED A $20 SUCTION FED SPRAY GUN I BAUGHT AT A TOOL SHOW, WITH GREAT RESULTS. NO NEED AT ALL TO BUY A HVLP SYSTEM OR THE LIKE, but IF YOU WANT IT TO TURN OUT WELL, YOU HAVE TO HAVE A COMPRESSOR THAT CAN PUMP OUT ALOT OF CFM AND LET IT RECHARGE OFTEN. IN HINDSIGHT, A MORE AIR EFFICIENT GUN WOULD HAVE MADE LIFE EASIER. GOOD LUCK WITH EVERYTHING, I REALLY LIKE THAT COATING!

MATT :mad2:

EDIT: WOW, I REALLY RAMBLED ON THERE, SORRY!

Are painting over the Line X? My tub is almost at the same stage. It is waiting to be Rhino Lined underneath, in the wheel wells, under the fenders and inside the tub. It'll be down in yellow. I considered black, but I couldn't see having a black interior in the summer - hoooot! So I'm going with yellow, and decided to do the underside in yellow as well. Its gonna run a little more than you though. Looks great:) (except for that j**p trim job!! ).

I hope to have some pics of mine by next weekend!! Just waiting for the SO to be finished by this weekend so the tub can be placed on to see where the rear axle sits to see how much to cut!! Not j**p style though!!:flipoff2:

I am not going to paint over the linex. I chose linex because of the finish and durability of it over rhino liner. I have rhino in my pick up bed and it has been good but faded quickly and is much softer than the linex. I have had several things in my truck that has actually cut the rhino. The linex guy told me he could do colors but he didn't suggest it because it isn't perfected yet. A rhino dealer told me the same about the color. Black may be hot but I will be running some kind of top (bikini, safari or soft).

I decided to use the Tj flares because I thought they looked good on Nolen's rig Kate and also on the other rigs I have seen it on. By no means will my cruiser look j**p like:flipoff2:

Yep, I'm gonna run TJ flares as well!! Have you got a set yet? Any chance you can trace them out for me so that I can get an idea of where I want to cut my rears since I haven't tracked a set down yet?

Sean,
go to the dealer and get them. I hunted around for ever and they were all aftermarket wide things with front and rear for $400. no thanks. tried the Jeep dealer and they had the rears in stock for $63/side. You do not have to cut the wheel well out in the round shape b/c you can trim the inner lip off the flares and fit them on a more square shape...

Super, thanks Brett!! I think that's how Nolen had when I met Kate. Nolen? I just was looking for the size until I can get the flares. I'm on the road again starting tonight for a week, so maybe I'll grab some somewher and ship 'em home. Too bad I don't do SD layovers, cause I be owing you some

Also, did you get my email? I have your air rail, 5 of 6 nozzles, and choke cable as trade for those shock towers. I think you wanted my '75 dist and coil and some other pull knobs/cables?? Just reply to that email with a reasonable ffer, and like I said, it'll be accepted!! :D If you can wait untillate next week I can get them all out together with possibly the 6th nozzle. I have the air rail, nozzle and choke cable ready now if you that in a hurry though!!

My phone is in my email to you! Let me know!!

Sean,

I got my flares out of a junkyard for $40.00 for the pair. Just found a wrecked TJ. There is a j**p junkyard north of Denver just off of 25 near Erie. Thats where I got mine. If you need me to trace something I can but I am on vacation and am in Ocean CIty MD. I won't be home until the 25th. I cut mine circular because I liked the lip on the back side which really helps in aligning it. I could always square them up if I remove it.

Thanks for the heads up Greg. I think I know the junkyard!! I need to swing by that way to stop by Rockstomper in Longmont soon to order some wheels. I may just drop in there too.

I've done the Ocean City thing before, I grew up down the coast in Va Bch!!

I will kkep you posted. It will be a little bit yet on reassembly. I can tell however it will give me a great deal of noise reduction just from the way the tub sounds now with the linex sprayed on. All sounds are deadened. I also have rhino liner in my pickup bed and that made a big difference in noise in my pick-up. I will lwt you know when I get the cruiser on the road.
