I have been looking at the Go Pro cameras. Anyone hear good or bad things about them? What are the crawlers using?

I saw these at SEMA. They look like a bitchen deal. The quality of video that they had on display was top notch. 140 bucks I think.

From what I saw I would recomend it.

Unless you are talking about streetbike use, i would never consider a handlebar mount.
i have been using a set up from www.archos.com. i use the 80 gig hard drive and the batteries last 4 hours. Impossible to run out of storage on any ride weekend. i like it. Setting camera on helmet is a chore but once in the right spot (i duct tape it) it stays.

Go here for lots of choices: www.pointofviewcameras.com
i know someone that use the 'twenty20' set up. He likes it.

I have the VIO pov.1 camera system and am pretty happy with it. I have used it on my helmet while motorcycle riding, on the side of a Jeep while on the trail, in a helicopter (only because I didnt have my other vid cam) and directly attached to my sandrail chassis.

The camera mfg website is www.vio-pov.com/

you can see footage on youtube that I uploaded here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6vTM7qMZ9C0 but keep in mind that the youtube quality is no where what the actual quality is when burned to DVD format and played on a tv. When looking at the youtube link, select the "other videos by sonicdonkey" and you will see a few different applications I used it on.

Another good and seemingly unbiased website is http://helmetcameracentral.com/ they do reviews on many cams from low to high end. Video samples as well that are better resolution than my youtube link too.

Good luck

Sonicdonkey,
i too notice a huge letdown in quality when uploading helmet cam videos. The actual quality is GREAT but youtube sucks. Is there a better way or format to upload our video?

Not true anymore. Previously, the best way to get quality on YouTube was to pre-convert the video to FLV format for YouTube, instead of letting them convert it.

Well...not long ago, they changed their uploading restrictions. Instead of a 100MB limit, there is now a 1GB limit. If you upload your hi-res video in your preferred format, like WMV or MOV...YouTube will display low-res FLV initially, but there will be a link...WATCH IN HIGH-RESOLUTION. Obviously, the link is only available if you upload a high-res copy. If you pre-convert to FLV, then that's all you'll get.

There is a settings in your account, where you can prefer to watch in Hi-Res...unfortunately, it seems to only last for the session you're in. If you log out and watch again later with another connection, it reverts to low-res. GRRR....I wish it would just do what I say!
