I'm going full width on my 81 CJ-5. :D I've got the small block in with a NP465 and a 300 TC. (and a 2 piece rear)

1- What are the best junk yard axles?

I see a lot of D44(ford outers)- 9" combos. Seems easy to keep 5 on 5.5. Is the d44 up to 37's? Ground clearence on the low pinion 9'' bad?

2- What other big junk yard axles are pass side drop?

3- After the front is cut does the rear match?

Thank you for you comments, Forrest.

Could go Chevy D44 and 12 bolt or 14 bolt.Would need to change wheels though.Or Scout 44s front and rear.Or waggys. If you cutting the axle down it is not full width.:flipoff2:

This site has some killer install information. You just need to get out there and do it.

Remeber theres two widths for us CJ-5 owners theres 60 inch and theres 68 inch.

I went 60 inch axles. Couldnt be happier.

You will need to outboard the front springs but beyond that its faily simple.
