I'm lookin at buying a 64 scout and I need information on some stuff. Its suppose to have a 345 v8 in it. Are these good engines? Good power? Also its a automAtic what trans and t case would it have. It has a spring over on it and 36s. He has a scout and he says the axles on this one are wider then his. But they are a 6 bolt so I'm not sure what they are. Any help would be great. Thanks alot

Probobly a 349 Stoker mated to a T940 auto/203 combo. Stock axles on the early Scouts blow away the marginal ScoutII axles so it should be fairly sturdy.

If the body is in the 80%+ range the value of a SOA rare V-80 early Scout should be in the range of 5-9K$ and upwards of 12K$ if you put it back to stock form.

You earned it so now search and find that the early Scouts didnt come with V8s. Find that the 345 are good but heavy and the stock axles are D27 crapola and narrow like a jeep. A SOA on full widths like you describe is worth whatever you are willing to pay. Wheel it until it dies.

Now, for some tech. If'n memory serves me right, the V-8 motors were not available in '64, nor was an automatic tranny. It should have originally been a 4-cylinder, 3-speed chassis, which is different than the later V-8 chassis. Doesn't mean it won't fit, you just gave to modify something.

So if it really is a '64, and really has a 345 then you're going to need to find out what they did.

As for the rest of your questions, it has effectively been determined that the truck in question has likely been bastardized, or is not as stated. So we have no way of knowing whats in there.

Best solution, go take a look at it, take a bunch of pictures then come back and we can help. Sure you'll get a ration of shit, but that's because this is Pirate, not the Binder Bulletin. But if you stick around, and grow a thick skin and not be a total ass-hat, you'll be helped. Stock drive train in the early Scouts is junk. But if you like the lines, all can be swapped and modified.

Sounds like he is looking at a scout listed on ebay right now in Missouri, white and black with a 345, auto, SOA on 36" goodyear RTII's, with no title. Third time it has been listed, first 2 was at a tow in lot. If it is that one its a Scout 80 putting a v8 in it wouldn't be any different then putting a v8 in anything else. Scout with 100% body about 5K Scout with a 85% body 1.5K ish, rusted body mounts/quarterpannels $500.

4" lift and 32 = nothing really

The 304 V8 decreases the value since your limited to a 2bbl manifold unless you go to IHOnlyNorth and buy a bling manifold for $550 or so.

Cage, winch, bumpers (guessing D&C style) and the detroit add a good 1200 or so.

So $6,500 or so if its mint and are willing to have it up for sale for a long long time. A more realistic $2,500. But that is without seeing it.

Discs and a Detroit for the rear axle, gears, Detroit, and kingpin rebuild for the front axle, 7075 links with johnny joints, etc.
