: moving to South Dakota!
Donald Butcher 08-12-2002, 08:34 PM Looks like I'm moving to Rapid City South Dakota in Jan 03. Any of you guys got some pictures of the wheeling out that way? Or just some of the cruisers out there? I saw the Dakota Cruisers Web Site, and I plan on joining up when I get there
Thanks
Donald
:D
wngrog 08-13-2002, 04:16 AM Dude....who did you piss off?
What base is that?
There is some awesome wheelin in the Black Hills!
Not to mention camping, hunting, trout fishing.
Don't live there, just been there a few times.
Look up TLCA and then the Dakota cruisers.
Jason M 08-13-2002, 06:56 AM Give Willymut on this board a ring. He plays out there.....
Try www.bh4wheelers.com
www.mntoyx4.com They have some Cruiser Classic pics
This guy has write ups on SoDak Wheelin, although he is a Jeep guy;) http://www.bc4x4.com/thbsjeep/
The wheelin out there kicks ass
:D
Donald Butcher 08-13-2002, 12:11 PM I really wanted to go out there! That was my first choice, I love to fly fish and camp so I figured it would be interesting to see.

I went to Minot one winter on a B-52 for a meeting.....was the coldest week of my life and I went through winter survival school at Fairchild!
I hope Ellsworth is a little warmer.
What is your specialty again?
Donald Butcher 08-13-2002, 12:56 PM Currently I work Avionics backshop, but after OTS I will be a contracting officer. I've got a buddy who is stationed at Minot.

Damn, you will be so far down the food chain it's not funny!
Pilot's Air Force!
I knew I was in the wrong profession when I was below an Electronic Warfare Officer in a B-52 on the food chain!
The best thing about being a contracts officer is that it is a trade you can apply if/when you get out.
Intelligence was kind of limited......govt or govt....

When was that? my cousin Jim Dando was in charge around there for a while, and in Cheyanne before that.
missouriman 09-09-2002, 04:10 PM hey email me at

green73 09-09-2002, 07:03 PM At least you get to go where the wheeling is cool. PCS to Langley in Oct. Flightline Avionics here. ;) I'll make the best of it though. I really wanted Edwards or Nellis.
DavidW 09-09-2002, 07:03 PM Just got back from there 2-3 weeks ago. Beautiful! Caught 17 in 3lb Rainbow. My Bro-in-law is stationed there. He is a crew chief instructor for B-1s. I saw so many more Cruisers there than I did in TX. Talked to some pretty cool guys from Dokata Territory LCs. Check out Chiminey Canyon 4X4.
missouriman 09-09-2002, 08:40 PM Chiminey Canyon 4X4 did not stand behind my third that they put together, I was driving down the street when it started banging and destroyed my 5 month old gears. one of the carrier bolts had come loose and let the ring gear move to the side. I was told that I had abused it and that was not covered, and since the other three bolts were tight it was not their problem.
the dual case transfer case that I bought from them has a very loud bearing noise not 5 months later as well.
I will not go back there.
Donald Butcher 09-10-2002, 07:43 AM Hey my cruiser and my wife should be in Rapid City SD in about two weeks! I will be following in January. I can't wait to hook up with a club and learn some new shit!
Donald
willymutt 09-24-2002, 01:24 PM Two things.
Give me a ring when you get here. I am currently rigless because of a tranny problem, but have a lot of contacts.
Second, What do you drive MM? I am not real fond of Chimney Canyon. There are a lot better shops around. Let me know what you need, and I'll send you to the right people.
BTW, I drive the Blue Flatty with Dakota Offroad on the windshield frame. There is a guy that drives a grey fullsize cherokee that owns Dakota Offroad. He is very knowledgeable if you have questions.

cruzila 09-24-2002, 05:42 PM :flipoff2: I'm jealous. The wheelin is too nice and the people in the Dakota Cruiser Club are first rate.

missouriman 09-25-2002, 01:38 AM I drive a blue mini. extended cab.

ginericfj80 09-25-2002, 07:09 AM South Dakota is a little nicer than their northern neighbor. I did my time in the "arctic zone" of North Dakota. The week before Thanksgiving in 1989 the high was -70 with windchill. A couple years later South Dakota got buried and all their cattle died. I think that was 1994. South Dakota is nicer climate wise than the northern neighbor but the weather is very unpredictable. I remember a day when I was kid and we were camping the Black Hills over the 4th of July and it was 90 one day and the next day it snowed. Lots of nice places to wheel there! And Dakota Cruisers seems like a good club.
Donald Butcher 09-25-2002, 07:32 AM My wife is already up there and the cruiser should follow at the end of this week! I can't wait to get there.
