looks very nice man i am envious, whis someone made a kit for this like curry does for the 60, because i am confident i could do everything but make a new cover.

you don't have to make a new cover. With the 3/8 welded to the bottom of the housing, the cover has enough to seal it. You'll just need to trim the bottom of it so the housing is lower then the cover. That will prevent rocks from peeling it back.

Here is a shot from the inside. Sorry, i got home late and it's dark outside. I'll snap a pick of the cover tomorrow:p

i can't wait to do my 14bolt. i do plan to turn the ring gear down as much as possible. if all goes well and it takes a good bashing and keeps going the front 60 will be next. i figure i can play with the 14 bolt since they are a dime a dozen and i have two anyway.

was the plate welded from the inside as well? got the pics of the cover yet? what was the clearnce gain for you? also, did you figure in the pinion angle or did you just do it flat? thanks!

Currie makes a cover for a did-it-yourself cut 60? Details! I've never seen this on their web-site.

I'm in same boat...I want a nice strong cover w/o having to jig something up (I will if I have to, but not if there is a clean and strong product already availiable).

I'll post it today when i get home. Yes, we did weld it from the insde to make it a little stronger and leak proof.
Before the perches were welding in we test fitted it under the truck with some weight on the spring to set the pinion angle. Then we tacked it up, pulled it out and welded the perches on.
Currently with bald 39's i have 1/2" more clearence then 36's on a toyota axle.

The problem with just buying a cover that is already cut is it will depend on how much you are going to take off the axle. You DO NOT want the cover to hang lower then the axle or it will get peeled off the axle by a rock!

RockRover

Sure...That's why I was hoping for details...Like is the cover built with the ring-gear turned down or not, if not, how much clearance between the gear and the plate, etc. If it makes good sence then I say yes.

I wonder if a Terra cover will fit a standard (and shaved) 60?

i would sugguest doing alittle work on that cover before you hit the trails. the flanged lip on the 14bolt cover is a rock magnet. get rid of it i added some 1/8 steel to the lower half of my covers bolt flange and also added beef to the dome of the cover. the thin 14bolt covers will get mangled if you don't. here is a pic of what i did to mine. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=537494

Looking good Vova!

How much did you cut off (measurement)? How much gap between the plate and the ring gear?

Did you preheat the housing prior to welding the plate on? Definitely going to do this when I get my 14 bolt. I'd plate that diff cover too though.

Nice work Ryan!
