Fred,

what kind of "guide" are you referring to?

I popped the seals outta my 60 inners with
an old axle shaft. (I didn't plan on reusing them) and after they were out, there wasn't
anything left inside the tube.....

the seals look like a piece of rubber attached to a round piece of sheet metal
the guide looks like a thick metal ring
i'll try to get some pics

Fred there are two different types of inner seals at the carrier. There is the older type that looks like a piece of rubber with a bellish shaped ring that protrudes outward toward the knuckle aspect of the tube like what you described. The newer version is a straight seal like the wheel bearing seal on the back of the bearing hub.If you have the older style the seal often rips away from the bell shpaed part taht you described..You can try taking a long piece of pipe and knocking it out..Another option is try driving something between it and the housing so it will dislodge..if you need any further help pm me..

I normally do not do "ya I agree" posts, but figured a second opinion on this would put your mind at ease. You have removed the seal, in the pic you posted, there is nothing in the tube/housing but the machined bore and the sealant used at the OEM to prevent leakage

I thought that stuff was part of another seal
because it looked too perfectly rounded
compared to the silicone seals I'm used to
applying. FYI Fred, don't go to Napa for your
rebuild kit. All they have is balljoint
stuff <IMG SRC="smilies/puke.gif" border="0"> <IMG SRC="smilies/mad.gif" border="0"> BTDT
