: 76+ body on 75- frame?

I bought a CJ6 frame this week, and am interested in putting a bobbed CJ8 body on it. Anybody done it? Is it even possible?

Looking at the frame, it would appear that there would just be body mount 'issues' towards the rear since the frame stays at the 27.5" wide mark.

TIA

I've done an older body, onto a newer frame. Put a 73 cj-5 tub on a 80 cj-5 frame. Had to make a bunch of body mounts on the tub. All in all it wasn't to bad. Now using a cj-6 and cj-8. I would guess that you are going to have to make a lot of new mounts.

My CJ-5 I am building has a 75 tub I put on a 79 frame.I used 2x3 tubing and spanned across the body mounts on the frame and bolted through everything. It seems to be working. Not finished so don't know if it will hold up.May end up moving body mounts not sure yet.

The 8 tub should work great... since the rear section of the frame on the 6 is narrower than the 8 frame.

It will require the relocation of body mounts but they should be in easy locations. You didnt say what year 6 frame.

If its 72 up you will have no problem with the front end. If its older, you have to remember they use shorter fenders. So the you might have to mount the tub back a bit.

Its a 75 frame which is 'fortunate'. I'm hoping that Syko can find me a tub. :D

I was thinkin about an 8 frame under my 6.. haven't even checked if it's possible but i'm guessing with enough steel and a large metal brake It should be possible :D
Gotta get drivetrain somewhat dialed in.. then I'll worry about frames hehe. good luck. sounds like a fun project.

Is the wheel base the same between a 6 and an 8? I thought the 8 was longer. Why not use the frame for a CJ-8? It sounds liek you're going to bob the back anyway, why not bob the frame too. Isn't the CJ-8 frame boxed too?

i have a scrambler tub in INDY that i want to sell...

i'm losing my storage space, so i'm motivated!

it needs some work, but it sounds like your building something custom anyway.

i even deliver!

also, i know where a complete, non running, needs body work (NO RUST, just dents), 4cyl, 1981 scrambler is for sale ($2700 firm) and where a rusted out POS with a good frame scrambler is (ask Meyer).

Yea, the wheelbase is the same, I think you might be thinking that it's longer because of the overhang.

I thought about finding an 8 frame, but the 6 frame kind of fell into my lap. For $100 bucks, I got the frame, the original VIN plate, and the title. So, it's all good.

If it's a '72-75 CJ6 they are the same wheelbase. Prior to '72 they are like CJ5's with the 3" shorter front clip. My CJ6 has a Commando frame under it which is also the same wheelbase, but boxed except for the last three feet or so. Mine has been completely boxed.
