I am not going to get into specifics but the '87 wrangler used some oddball parts,transfercase in particular, i think the engine has some unique items as well, basically it is the first year of production for the wrangler and the first year of production for a lot of vehicles is not the best year to go for. get a fuel injected wrangler, started in 92 i think. unless you plan on just using the frame and body and putting your own guts in it dont do the '87.

I'll put this a lot nicer than some other people might, fawking sit back and go through the threads. Read the Jeep Talk Bible, and if you have any questions... SEARCH, not once, not twice but three times before you even think about posting because there is no need for useless threads such as this because it's been covered tons of times or else people will flame you like no other and you'll start throwing shit back and more shit will be thrown at you. So... search. :flipoff2:

I've lurked on this forum for 3 years before even joining.

do it. 87 was the only year that had the desirable peugeot transmission. it also had the super stout dana 30 front axle with the vacuum disconnect. all great parts that will easily hold up to 37" tires, especially if you really want to wheel hard. just don't use caps when you type and you'll get along just fine here in the jeep hardcore section :beer:

That 207 t-case that it came with is about like an Atlas isn't it?:laughing:

Depends On What They Want For It, And What You Plan On Doing To It.

The Carb. Systam On The 87 Through 90 4.2 Sucked Ass And Is Hard To Maintain. Transmission Was Weak. All Can Be Fixed And Upgraded, But How Much Do You Want To Spend Is The Question.
Your Looking At Around 800.00 Dollars Just For Carb. And Intake Upgrade, And Close To 2,000 For Fuel Injection.

And This Being Your 1st Jeep You'll Probably Have Someone Do The Mods For You.

So My Suggestion Like Evaryone Else Is To Find A Wrangler With A 4.0 Fuel Injected Engine A Go From There.

Definitely a good start, for a guy who squats to pee. You should be good up to 42" tires with no upgrades.
I suggest you take the medicine your about to receive here, learn from it, do some more reading. Then come back and ask your questions here;
