Anyone built a 6x6 zuke useing the diffs. from an m-151 jeep?
These diffs have d-shaft in and a d-shaft out.
I saw an m 151 jeep that someone converted to a 6x6. It really cruises through the tundra and swamps of Alaska. I would like to figure out how to convert this diff from independant suspension to solid axle.
Any ideas?

This diff. has yolks out the sides to hook ujoints to for the axles.
It also has yolks out of the front and the back for drive in and drive out. I dont like independent suspension so I.d like to convert these axles to solid. just like a zuke axle.

Akdale, do you have any info on these diffs and where i can get some?

Rick.
Go to http://www.dogpile.com and type in "m-151" in the search box. This will bring up all kinds of links to the m-151 army jeeps.
I am just starting the investigation into these diffs. and don't really know much about them. Someone told me that they thought they were 4:1. Sounds interesting.
I saw a 6x6 jeep the other day where the guy used 3 of these diffs.
Looked really awesome!! and it goes where no Jeep has gone before. Not to mention that it smoothes out some of the bumps.

I want to do this to one of my zukes. I need ideas on how to set up the axle-hub-brake-and suspension. Like I said, Just getting started.

I have the opportunity to buy 50 of these diffs.

Hope this helps
Dale

how much will these diffs cost each? I have been thinking of doing something different with one of my zuks also. I was thinking of and 8x8 where the front two axels turn but I had'nt found any diffs that would work till now. thanks for the web site.

I am still dickering with the guy that has them.
I am suspecting that they will cost me about 150.00 each.
Let me know if you can find any on the web, and how much they are. I found a "New one" for 350.00 at one site.

Cool.
What is a portal?

portal axels from a unimog. they give you 6" more clearnce. what i'm trying to get are from the axel tube on out and adapt them to some dana 44 axels. the mog axels weigh about 550 lbs front and 450 rear. that is why I want just the portals on out.

"WHat you guys need is this: Plenty of beef ... no part problems and you cant break them!"

So, --- what are you saying that we should use for diffs?

daniel, i know you have said before that you are not a fan of just using the PTO as a power source for the third axle. could you please elaborate why?

thanks

I am having trouble visualizing how the suspension would work on axle 2 and 3 using the double d=shaft setup coming back from the transfer cases.
I don't see how d-shaft for axle 3 would get past axle 2:confused:

First, What a COOL drawing. What prog do you use?
A really interesting design on yhe suspension.
Have you or anyone that you know actually used this design to build a 6x6?
I guess that #3 driveshaft gets a carrier bearing and a couple of CV's above axle 2 for articulation clearance?

I am very interested in doing this with my Samurai.

I have a friend of mine that has a transfer case that someone may be interested in and I think he is willing to sell fairly cheap.
I'm not sure exactly what it is. I'll tell you what I know and maybe Daniel can help.
-It is a Borg-Warner

-it came out of a 1938ish Dodge/military truck (probably 1 1/4 ton, there wasn't a lot of the truck left)

-it is divorced

-it has the dual outputs in the rear

-the front output is pass side

- it didn't come this way, but he put 1480 yokes in it

Where in Wasilla, AKDale?
I remember the 6x6 M151 you saw, the guy just recently sold it, I believe. It seems you could stick it in place of a third member (zuk, toy, ford 9), you would need brace the axle a bit to make it survive the hole in the back, and I have some concerns about the distance between the axles, slip yoke length, etc. Independant might be better for Alaskan terrain anyway. I was thinking a tube frame buggy with Subaru trailing axles, with m151 diffs, and some SLA front suspension (chevy, toyota) or even a Suby McPherson type front end, with whatever has a similar gear ratio for a front diff.
I have the red Sam with a snorkel and diesel enging you may have seen around.

Here is a picture of a 3 axle Samurai. Of course the guy has converted it into an RV, but it still qualifies as a Zuk.

C306 is quite rere around the world. Site where that picture is from is Swedish army site where they list items which are going to be sold in big auction.

It has a swing arm independent portal like this picture below

sorry didnt mean to imply it was similer like that, only 6x6, and a different option as far as drive line layout/config. Definitly fun to drive...
