: Picked up a 96 4runner SR5....
Krylon.. 11-24-2008, 05:19 PM So I have been wanting a doublcab in the worst way, but cant afford one right now.. Was looking for an ext cab, but came across this Runner and it was clean!!
96 SR5, 4wd, power everything, sunroof, auto, cloth, 89k..... One dent the size of a half dollar in the hood, no scratches, a few tiny chips.... Interior is in great shape with no flaws....
AddictedOffroad 11-24-2008, 05:32 PM What's the plan with it?
Krylon.. 11-24-2008, 05:39 PM Wish I could say SAS, lift, etc... But for now it is just a DD.... :(
Just thought you guys would like seeing a low mileage yota someone took care of.....
webilt 11-25-2008, 06:32 PM Looks like a good score,with Super low mileage!!:smokin:
My wife has a 96 Limited 4Runner with 208K miles and my Daughter has a 96 Limited 4Runner with 268K miles, and they are still running strong,!!
Krylon.. 11-25-2008, 07:37 PM When I first saw the ad, I was a bit skeptical. Then when I saw it on the lot and test drove it, I could tell it had been taken care of... Really wanted a truck, but am very happy with it so far... And it will make a nice wheeler someday! :D
My boss has a 96 Tacoma with 283k and it is going strong.. Gotta love Yotas!!
Would like to find some dark grey FJ TRD alum wheels for it and maybe pick up some Goodyear AT/S tires... But it may be a little while.
Krylon.. 11-25-2008, 07:41 PM Interior:
Chopperman 11-25-2008, 11:21 PM dude. Throw a used lift and some 33's on it and go. You can hit a ton of trails and SNOW in nor cal and have a ton of fun.
On the other hand you can through a 60 under it in a weekend. I still owed money on my runner when i cut the ass off :smokin:
Krylon.. 11-26-2008, 03:32 PM Plans down the road are definatley going to be wheeling it.. But right now I am in FL.. :( So unless I want to hit aligator filled mud holes, it is mall wheelin for me! haha....
I dont mind wheelin or lifting things with payments... We were lifting my brothers TJ when it had 94 miles on it. :smokin:
angeley 11-27-2008, 08:33 AM How about something like this? You want a double cab eh?
Albuquerque Jim 11-27-2008, 09:36 AM With a little time and $ these trucks become quite capable, even with IFS. :D
Sure, it's not a ramp champ...but a good solid wheeler for anything less than the most Hard Core trails.

I still think it's a waste of $$ not just doing a SAS
likely cheaper anyway, most defiantly cheaper in long run if you are heading toward a SAS anyway.
nice pic, but nothing a near stocker with lockers can't do:p
Booger Weldz 11-27-2008, 10:49 AM it needs a front fj80 axle and suspension, 33 MT's and front/rear Elockers and dual gear driven cases!!!!!!!!!!!! simple, effective weekend warrior with all the comforts of a late model 4runner...Cmon you puss!:grinpimp:

i agree with the SAS,but jim's 4runner is SWEET and capable!
Krylon.. 11-28-2008, 07:21 AM Speaking of the double cab, I have been reading Mossy's build and subscribed to it yesterday! :D
One day it will definatley get the SAS . Right now I have zero places to wheel and I am not fond of mud bogs... Plus I dont think my condo association would be happy with me welding and grinding away in my garage...

drop it off with your ktm, some drawings of bumpers you like and a fist full of 100's...come back in a month and leave without the ktm:D:D:D

X3, I'm not even touching my suspension until I can afford to SAS- it's the only option for me lol
rockota 11-28-2008, 11:51 AM wish I still had my '96 limited. One of the best vehicles I ever owned. Looks like you got a great buy.
Dare44 11-30-2008, 11:29 PM Sweet it looks just like mine when i brought it home..... Now its lifted, smashed, and tubeing is slowly taking over  SAS will come when i get a new DD for now i like OME lift. Its a great camping/dd/beat on rig :D
And mine is still running strong many cv axles later at 170k miles

You mean the CRF50 I used to have? I miss that thing... Sold it and shipped it to TX..
Someday it will probably resemble Mossy's rig. :D
PROJECTJUNKIE 12-14-2008, 09:24 AM Do what works for you. You don't need to jump on the "gotta have D60s 42s and links to got there" band wagon. My early bronco with full width axles and 38s hasn't been driven in a year, my 4runner on 33s with IFS and rear locker gets driven daily, wheeled whenever we have time, I wheel with a bunch of trailer queens, that might get to play on a big rock that I don't, but I'm not constantly fixing stuff, and I've got AC. My family is comfortable and we have a blast. I have the traction and clearance to get me into spots that gaurantee body damage, if I had a sas and 35s it wouldn't open up many lines for me.
Krylon.. 12-14-2008, 03:40 PM But oh the peer pressure!!! ;)
The one rig I wish I would have never sold is my 91 reg cab yota. I had the SAS about 90% done, DRW D60, van width D70 with 14B hubs, H1 12 bolts, and a garage full of tubing...
Sold it before it ever saw the light of day... *sniffle* But that project started out as a timing chain/ water pump install and a new head gasket.
downpour11 08-15-2010, 09:54 PM yeah bro my 96 has 372500k on it and it is in absolutely perfect condition all stock and always dealer maintinance oil change every 3k. no leaks no nothing- just put another 1000 miles on it driving from northern cali to tucson az last week cruising 80 the whole way. take care of it and it will last you.
Krylon.. 08-16-2010, 04:44 PM Up to about 108k now and (*knock on wood*) not one issue. Put some new tires on it and some newer wheels. Going to redo the front end once I find a reputable shop down here.. Love it so far!
