Heres the deal. I found a ford 9in, and they only want $75 for it. Can I do a 6 lug conversion?? I need it for my Toyota, Rear of course. Some one was saying to put it in my Tacoma. How hard, and what is the width of it??

Prolly cause someone told him to buy it  Okay in all fairness, did you want to buy it cause it has a stronger drop out (the 2 bearing design on the pinion)? The wider track? Or just cause it is a 9”? We await your answer :flipoff2:

Depends on which 9" it is... I'm in the process of putting one in my Yota. It's from around a 1978 Lincoln, 63" wide with disc brakes. I ordered new axles from Gearman and went from 5 lug to 6 lug Currie's with a 33 spline spool. Disc rotors have to be redrilled to 6 lug too and the axle flanges have to be turned just a bit so the rotors will fit over them. Should make for a pretty strong setup... There seems to be a small bearing and a big bearing 9". Of course, the big one is better and if it has drum brakes, you can convert it to disc... :D:D

I told him to put it oin his truck because:

-he already has a rc 44 in the front (65")
-he is breaking tacoma shafts
-the 9" has stronger gears
-the 9" has stronger stock shafts than a D60
-I did a 6 lug/disc conversion for a little over $200

98taco, I think I told you what to look for, you want a "banjo" housing 9" it should be about 65" WMS to WMS. I don't remeber how to tell if it's a big bearing 9" or not, I bought mine from B&T. To convert it to disc brakes, buy some late model chevy IFS rotors (already 6 lug), buy weld on caliper brackets for Chevy "big" calipers ( I got mine form B&T also) buy calipers for a 4wd 10 bolt. Pull the axles, buy new bearings and take them to a local machine shop. I had both my axles and rotors redrilled (rotors to match the smaller holes of the metric wheel studs), new bearings pressed on and new metric lugs put in for a little over $100. With the drum backing plate bolted on, I cut around the mounting flange with a torch and ground it clean, to create a spacer for when I bolted the axle sfafts back in. I triple-pass welded the caliper brackets so they are not going anywhere.

I am looking for some thing stronger. I only have a 4cyl and I have broke, and bent another Tacoma rear axle shaft.

look for a double rib third opposed to a single rib, and if u can find a nodular great but thats alotta $$$, better to get a hi-pinion. and u would have to measure with dial calipers for a big bearing and small bearing. are u getting custom axles made because stock is (usually) 28 spline. opposed to 31.
and here is some 9" widths

and look here for some more info
