I need to find a place to buy a puller for the input and output bearing for a ford t-18.
Any help would be cool.

Harbor Freight (http://www.harborfreight.com/)

Northern Tools (http://www.northerntools.com/)

Both have shop presses for sale.

I've got a shop press. I need a tool that will grab the snap ring groove to pull.

i am guessing the main shaft is still in the case.. i was able to tap on the shaft and use a pair of screw drivers to pry out the bearings on my scout t19.

I hooked onto the ones on my 465 with a regular 2 jaw gear puller. Worked great, but you have to be able to get the retaining ring 1/8" or so away from the case to get the jaws to grab.

Oh, I got you now. I tapped the input shaft out with a rubber mallet. Then walked the rear shaft out of the back of the case and used my two jaw puller, no problems. Does this help at all?

you need a bearing seperator to grab the snap ring groove, then a 3 ( or 2) jaw puller to pull on the bearing seperator.

like this

I was able to tap mine off with a hammer as stated above, but I helped a buddy with his and it wouldnt budge, it required a puller, some are just tighter than others

Used my seperator and broke of the edge in the groove on the front. The bearing isn't out far enough to get behing it with a regular puller. I beat on with a it with a 3lbs bass hammer and no go. The first time I did it I used a puller that was made to pull a t-18 bearing and was circular and fit into the ring groove all the way around and worked awsome. I'm looking to buy something like that. The damn thing is on there so all the little tricks arn't working.

OTC Tool has the tool you want, last time I checked, it came as a set, with several inserts, and two sizes of collars. Or you could buy replacment parts, collar, or the inserts.

Not cheap, but nothing like having the right tool.

maybe use some heat and save the tool coin?

if your not planning to reuse the $27 bearing that is.

Posi-lock makes a 3 jaw puller that uses the snap ring grooves to pull the transmission bearing. Sears part #00930178000 159.99 http://www.sears.com/sr/mercado/searchall.jsp

Does It work good? Do you think it is a quality tool that will last a long time? :)

If you take it to a transmission shop they can pull it for you for a few bucks:usa:

Quit fawkin around and tap the shafts to get them out. If you are breaking tools, then maybe the bearing is not coming out straight. A puller is nice, but I have never needed to use them on the many trannies and cases I have taken apart.

Yeah, I've done a number of them that came apart with a little tapping and leverage, and thought that I could do them all that way too. But the last T-18 I got into had the input bearing stuck onto the shaft so tight that a puller was really required.. Not all input shafts are actually on-size.

Yes it is a high quality tool, that should last a long time. None of this cheap foreign crap.

Thank you:) I've taken a bunch apart too. Somtimes you get a bastard bearing. Instead of hammering on it till something breaks, I thought It would be worth the money to have the right tool. I have the time to wait for a tool, 6 months from now I might not.;)
