The only way I can imagine this working is with either Toyota 24 spline gears that fit the diffs, or Rover axles with 30 spline inner Toyota dimensions...

The pros of the above (are there any?) aren't worth the marginal increase in $ and effort to go full 30 spline Toyota with the Longfield birfs, even with shipping which was a burden for me...

It wouldnt be worth it, the rovertracks kit is so cheap. If you did it, you would have to find someone to make you custom axles, with the rover pattern on the flanges, and the rover length. Then you would have to set up a housing with out a jig, then you have to pay for the additional machine work for the spindles, and sewer cap.. plus you get a lifetime axle warranty with rovertracks. If you do have custom axles made and break one, IF its warrantied you will have to wait for custom ones to be cut again.. WHere as with the rovertracks kit, they are always in stock.. The kit is only 575, I think it would cost more to do it on your own. my .02

EDIT* Marlin crawler sells toy 30 spline axles for 349 for the pair, then add the machine work in on that for the flange and lenght( and thats only axles)..

JB, I just finished my toy conversion and if you are going to do it, let me know. Lane sent me an axle housing for free and it made things soooo much easier since I could build it in the garage without tearing my truck appart. Get the kit from Keith and I'll send you my axle housing, just pay the shipping.

Several guys have done it, in the end I don't think they saved any $$$ some had some pretty big problems.

If you think about it the cost of the front kit comes with all the machine work required to make it all fit. To stuff all this in a rover housing you need to machine the Swivel balls, the CV's, stub axles and the pinion flange.
If you have the skills and a mill and a lathe I can discount the machinework and I freely share the information about what needs to be machined, I doubt seriously that a local machine shop can do the machining for less than I charge.

There also a couple items I supply that you might have a hard time sourcing as they're pretty specific to the application.

could get some fj80 axles and swap them under

why? A lot more cost and complexity and you don't gain any significant strength. So what's the point? You also end up with harder to find more expensive parts. Also the fronts are actually weaker than standard toy stuff. Granted you might be able to find one with an e-locker all ready to go but you can buy a full third with arb for 1100 bucks from toyparts on the board

or you could get a low mile, like new 4.10 E-locker 3rd like this for $400

Noticed the only appears to be 3 "ribs" on one side of that housing like a 4cyl. The 80 series e-lockers don't have 4 ribs per side?

I've so convinced myself that fj62 axles are the way to go that I went out and scored a pair with a locker in the front. In a few short years I should find the time to get them in and see if I'm right, or... :D

Yep, and according to Keith they don't fit in a Rover housing.

*puts on newb flame suit*

I've been looking for an expedition style vehicle (out growing my 4-door Suzuki), and looking at Land Rover as an option (and Jeep Cherokee). This thread is a little confusing to me - are you saying Toyota axles are wide enough to bolt / weld under a Disco or not? If they fit, that would be sweet since I have a couple built and ready to go.

I think FJ62 axles are within a few inches. Should work with proper rim offset. I have an RRC, but I believe it's the same as a D1.

By the time you weld on all the stuff for the three link + coils, you'll be a good welder, or have crappy axles. :D
