Hello to all,
new offroader from the small island of Trinidad here.
I just purchased an 84 RHD SJ410. It has the puny 1000cc engine with 4 speed gearbox and drum brakes front and back. --- not good enough, lol.
First things first I would like to change out the drum brakes for disc. Would the axles from a Sammy or Jimny bolt right on without major problems? I mean, can I swap out the axles without having to change the gearbox and engine all at one time? I want to swap the engine out for a 1300 or 1600 sometime in the future. Any suggestions as to what order I should tackle this project in?
thanks in advance for all the help.

well, stopping is arguably more important than going. a brake/axle upgrade would be a great start.
so you on the island, or on some mainland?

Samurai axles will work fairly eaily. You will need to remove the spring pads and relocate a set fothe narrower spring location of the s410. The sj410 drive shafts are very small diamiter but I believe the u-joints and flanges are the same.

thanks for the info, so the gearing wouldnt need to change, correct?
Just move the perches, and get up an go? sounds good.
And to cajunsuzukispider, Trinidad and Tobago are two separate Caribbean islands, I live on Trinidad, the bigger of the two.

k guys, few more questions
1.) just picked up front and rear axles from a jimny. disc brakes and locking hubs up front. I figure I might as well get my spoa kit on while I'm under there. Now I have to decide who to buy it from. Any recommendations? Leaning towards 4.5" deluxe kit from low range or the deluxe kit from rocky road.
2.) Steering options... which to go with? Seen OTS hi steer from low range, OTT, z-link, and drop pitman. From what I've read so far, I'm thinking the OTS hi steer from low range offroad. Just the stage one for now. Any advice?
3.) And lastly, I'm desperately wanting to get rid of this wimpy 1000cc and 4 speed gearbox. Want to switch to something fuel injected and bigger. Either a 1.3 or 1.6. Is the 1.6 swap that much more difficult than the 1.3? I'm not looking for a racecar, just something to get me through minor trails, play on the beach, and take me home after. No rocks to crawl where I'm from. If i get the 1.3, I might think about a small turbo in the future for a little extra push. Anyone have a website link with someone who has done the swap from carb to FI? Searched but havent come up with anything?
Thanks for all the help. I plan on purchasing all parts from the same place including front and rear lock rite lockers too, heard only good things about low range offroad so far.

Ok, i guess i forgot to mention, I've been on ack's and many forums and many faq threads. Read lots of information. I was just looking for quick opinions on which kit i should go with. I'm ordering from overseas and wanted to order as soon as possible to get my Zuk up and running. Guess I should search some more then.

Just move the perches, and get up an go? sounds good.
The passenger perches will end up on the diff center section.
You'll have to cut the perches by yourself and make them taller than regular ones in order to clear the center section.
Just so you know.

If you want to wait forever for your parts and risk not getting what you ordered or some second hand crap then go with RRO
If you want quality parts and good customer support go with low range.
