: chevy 3/4 tons axles on 87 cherokee
shagy9888 11-26-2008, 08:21 AM Tonight I picked up a NP205 Ford T-case, $50, real clean with shifter, and a double carden 1330 drive shaft! Sweet. My current plan is to mate this behind a 203, Im still keeping the dana300 option open.
A 203-d300 would be 5.24 crawl and the 203-205 would only be 4.0ish...

IS that the stock jeep trans?? am trying to put a 3/4 ton chevy axles under my cherokee but the front drops on the wrong side, so if u could put the transfer case on my trans it would work
shagy9888 11-26-2008, 10:16 AM Here's on what i'm currently working ... my crawlerbox ... DD machine kit .. 6 planetary gear swap from a GM diesel 241. Cable twin stick dana 300 with 32 splines rear and front output. I'm waiting for my front yoke u bolt style 1350 yoke and the rear 1350 flange from Tom Woods. JB conversion included only 1310 yoke ... and they give $10 rebate if your not taking the yokes. So i'll built the crawlerbox and be waiting for my new 1350 stuff . Hope you'll enjoy the work !! :D

shagy9888 11-26-2008, 10:29 AM i got a 87 cherokee 4.0L auto np231 i want to put 1984 chevy 3/4 axles under it and my problem is that on the chevy front drops on pass side and jeep drops on drives. so i want to know if anyone can put pics or tell me or something how to put the 1984 chevy trans case on the stock auto jeep trans or cut the front axle tubs and move the diff over to the drive side.
need help thanx for your help
Action Fab 11-26-2008, 11:01 AM you are a dumb ass.
but I will be nice. just buy a Dana 300 and bolt it in.... enless your trany is a 21 splin which it most likely is. then get a 91+ trans with a stand alone controler then bolt in the 300. or just do what most would and through that peace of shit 10 bolt away and buy eather wagoneer 44's, ford 44/9 from a pre80 or just some one tons.

Yes it is an aw4 stock auto for some jeeps.
I dont know what t-case you have on the chevy might be a 205..
The aw4 is 23spline or 21 spline, It can be mated to other t-cases which are PS drop.
Aw4 21 spline could be adapted it to a Toyota 21 spline min truck t-case or dual cases.
Aw4 23 spline adapt it to a d300 not flipped is PS drop
Aw4 23 spline adapt it to a 79 dodge 203 gear rang as pictured and put a d300 or chevy 205 behind it would be PS drop.
Aw4 23 spline use a NP 231 front case and put a d300 or chevy 205 behind it.
Buy an aftermarket PS drop t-case.
The d300 would be the cheapest and easiest I think for what you want to do.
Twisty 11-26-2008, 01:00 PM Why a 1979 Dodge 203? I'm gathering parts to do a 203/205 doubler and have a source for a 1977 Dodge 203 with 23 splines. I assume that they will both work. I know that I need to run a small spacer, and re-drill some holes, but is there anything else other than that that could make the adaptation impossible?

I only had a 79 so dont know the year range for 23 spline. I never did the aw4-203 swap I ended up with a SBCth400-203-205.
You can clock it for better belly clearance, ive even seen them upside down.
Make a fill hole/plug in the PTO cover like any other 203 doubler.
you should be all set.

the 300 is a passenger drop from the factory in the CJ's. he just isnt flipping it like some other people do to keep the factory XJ drivers drop [and run a ford axle] when they put their doublers together

XJperez 11-29-2008, 07:54 PM 87 xj's cant be modified
dumblucky 11-29-2008, 10:40 PM buy a stak or atlas//otherwise you can forget the GM axles
passenger drop axles dont belong near a 231
ona serious note
you have a good plan . I wish I would have started with a dana 300 and cjevy axles
dumblucky 11-29-2008, 10:47 PM icut the front axle tubs and move the diff over to the drive side.

shagy9888 11-30-2008, 09:36 AM so the cheapes way to do this is looking like a dana 300
i know what the 84 chevy came with now, a turbo 400 and a NP 205, found a way to put that trans to the motor for like $450, got to see if the dana 300 will be less

OK... listen you need to read about building a jeep for a few months before building yours. I know I may sound like a dick here, but you have no clue what you are doing. You need to read the general jeep section, cherokee, general 4x4, newbi and anything else. Read every build thread you can. Pretend you are cramming for a big exam. You truely need to forget the 3/4 ton chevy shit. Yes its a cheap buy, but there is a reason for it. You probably dont have any wheeling experiance so I suggest that you take your stock XJ weld the 35 rear, through a lift shackle out back some 2" pucks up front, trim the finders and through a set of MT's on it and learn the basics before building a rig.

shut up dude your not helping u dont know anything about me and how i have wheeled i done exploded the stock axles so shut up not everyone got all the money to build all the shit on your signature u jack ass
jdconti84 11-30-2008, 02:06 PM call advanced adapters if you really want to use your chevy 60, you will have to get a dana300,stak, or altas to go to passanger side drop. But I suggest selling your chevy 60 and buy a ford 60 they are driver side drop, this way you can run your np231 until you have some more cash to put down on a better transfercase.

Ahhh another fawker that can't spell or type complete words....
Look at advace adapters, look at ebay or Craigs list and look for a left drop front if you don't want to go right drop.
It's called RESEARCH, and we've ALL done it.

Those are my favorite kind...
And yeah, like he said, READ first and ask questions later. And again, Advance Adapters makes all sorts of fun stuff for bolting up things that your XJ didn't come with originally.
vetteboy79 11-30-2008, 03:51 PM or just do what most would and through that peace of shit 10 bolt away and buy eather wagoneer 44's, ford 44/9
Cuz 10-bolts and 44's are all that different...

thanx thats a good idea
Action Fab 11-30-2008, 08:08 PM

No... but 80+ waggy 44's are DD and so are ford 44's. because we all know he wont want to buy chromos he will be limited to 36's... So that 14 bolt boat anchor would make for an awsome combo with some 36's, let me tell you. :shaking:
ashmanjeepXJ 12-01-2008, 12:34 PM do u know any web sites to find those bolts and adaptors?? thanx for all your help
The bolts will be hard to find.
The NP231 will be metric and the 205 or d300 will be SAE.
Youll have to have a machine shop make you a metric threaded bolt with an SAE head. :shaking::flipoff2:

ROCKBOXAZ 12-01-2008, 04:26 PM I cant believe this guy got as much help as he did! It must be the holiday spirit making PBB soft.:grinpimp:

ok thanx for all your help, your alot nicer then alot of the other guys on forums
jbjustin 12-02-2008, 12:41 PM i am in the process of putting a d44 from an early dodge in my xj. i also took the transfer case from the same dodge, pass drop NP241D. so far i have it bolted up and only needed to cut out some of the passenger side floorboard to get it to fit in. the 241 has 6 planetary gears and has a yoke for the rear output. if you cant find a dana 300 for cheap and dont want to mess with clocking just get the 241.
Action Fab 12-02-2008, 03:24 PM Yes but his AW4 is a 21 spl output. so the Dodge t-cases wont bolt up.... enless he was to put his front input from his 231 into the 241 which if memory serves right use the same ring gear with a differant # of pinions but still interchange
jbjustin 12-02-2008, 07:32 PM oops...forgot to mention that. i just swapped the input shafts like you said. didnt take too long and gave me a chance to make sure everything was up to par inside. but the bolt up is great, the clocking tucks the case up inside the rails.
