: Thinking out loud - Belly height vs. wheelbase

I've been doing alot of thinking & calculating the past few days on the new XJ build. What I've come up with is this.

36" tires
Fullwidth axles D44 & 8.8 ~67" WMS
4.5" lift

All added up this will give me a belly height of 25". I will be pushing the front axle out about 2" for tire clearance which will put me at 104" with the leafs in factory position. I can flip them to go out to 110".

Is 110" too much for 36's with 25" belly?
Is 25" belly with 36's enough?

I'm trying to keep this as low and light as possible.

Terrain will be all the local places around the South

how are you getting a 25" frame height? I had a 4.5 lift with 37's and was only 23" now im at about 6-6.5 and sitting right at 25.

Are you using the frame rails as a measuring point or the lowest point on the Jeep besides axles?

I'm using the frame rails since I'll be building a flat belly for it and the lower control arm mounts will be gone as well.

Om my level shop floor with full drivetrain and interior. 100% stock

Stock 16" belly
add 4.5 for lift
now 20.5" belly

stock 27" tires, going to 36" tires
9" difference
add half of difference(4.5") to belly
25" belly

I know springs settle and tires vary in size from what's on the sidewall but I'm just doing this to get an idea of what I want to build for.

110" WB is going to be too long for a 36" tire IMHO. Having run nearly all the major spots in the south (Tellico/Gray Rock/Morris Mtn/Harlan/etc.) on 39" tires and a 106" wheelbase I'd say that 104" would probably be about right for that belly height/tire combo.

I donno about too long, but I would be worried about driveshafts. Unless you ran HP/HP, I'm pretty sure you're gonna be trashing some driveshafts.

Here's mine at 108.5" wheelbase and 39.5s:

I have a NV4500, 231-300, and the driveline length isn't a problem. And it's stuffed the hell up into the body. I definitely think that 25" belly height is a little optimistic for 36" tires...I've got more than that, but not a lot and I've got bigger tires and probably more interior clearance.

I wouldn't mind stretching mine a little more, but 110 on 36's is gonna be draggin a lot.

25" belly height is enough, though in the real world you shouldn't be at 25" with that combination. Whatever you end up with is going to work. The tunr the springs around thing to get to 110" wheelbase isn't a good idea, the springs won't last.
