: Tactical scopes

I could bring this question to any of the AR forums but I think there are enough people over here on Pirate that have real world experience with the AR type weapon that I dont really feel the need to go join another forum. Besides I could read hundreds of pages to get to a final conclusion and I'm not looking to be an expert in the field just a confident end user.

I found a bit on scopes over here but none that really answer my question.

I currently have a RRA .223 with a Eotech on it and our cruisers are equipped with Bushmaster M4's with iron sights. I'd like to switch to a 1-4x scope that will allow CQB usage and also be able to reach out to 2-300? yards or so with precision. I know I could use the 3x magnifier but I'd like to also use the variable feature to allow use in recon as well.

Its application is for my small PD where I would be doing things such as building searches up and to include armed stand-offs. For example our school is big enough that my weapon of choice in an active shooter incident would be the M4 over my pistol. Additionally, we have been to a few active shooter calls were my post was some 200 yards from the homes. I'd love to have a up close view for surveillance and application if needed.

So what say y'all? got any thoughts on the new equipment out there?

Millett DMS-1 Scope in a ADM Recon-X Mount. Great combo, I have beaten on mine and it even works well with NVG systems

Thanks Doc.

That was on of the ones I was considering and also the Burris Xtr. Any thoughts on the Burris?

I've got the DMS-1 as well, love it, its a great scope for its price range. In fact, I'd go so far as to say nothing else comes close for its price point.

I recently read a review of the new Burris XTR and it looks even better, but its also twice the price. Here's the review, careful over there though, the koolaid runs deep.

Recticle on the Burris looks good, but I'll stick with the simplicity of the DMS-1, I have no complaints with it to make me spend twice as much money for a minimal gain.

I can't help you, I've reclassified my DMS-1 as "strategic."

I'm running an IOR Valdada 1.1-4x26 CRT Illuminated with a Larue cantaleve mount (should have gotten a different mount)

BUT..... I have to say.... I love that scope and would say get one if you can stand the price tag! But, I am probably going to sell it this month... I wanna get a 1.5-8x35. I use that rifle for too much 200-300 yard varmit hunting

Ok I ended up going with the Burris XTR. I got it during the Ebay 40% off deal so I did really well on it.

Next question is how does the front sight on my RRA CAR A4 come off?

Hack saw.

Seriously though, try it 1st....usually 2x and above you wont be able to see the post in your scope, and for me @ 1 power it's not in the way enough to bother me.

Really? It's not a problem with an acog. If you don't want to destroy the front sight, you will have to drift the pins out and replace it with something like this
