Hey, I'm new here on the boards, but I have been lurking on here for a while. I also am very active on TTORA under the same name.

Here it goes.. I sold my last trail truck to buy a house. Once I get settled here and get up my new garage, I will be building a Formula Toy (more than likely the Formula Four). I pretty much have it all figured out what I want and how I want to do things, but I wanted to do something different. I saw on here that someone had taken the grille/headlights from the donor truck and used it on their FToy (narrowed of course). I also want to do that, but also use the donor rear taillights, possibly the dash/gauge cluster area, and whatever else I can to make things "simpler" and cut cost.

Now for the question... Does ANYONE have that pic I saw or have any pics of what I am wanting to do to my future project?? I mainly just wanna see if it looks good or not...

If the rig was red and had most of a truck front cap that was fyrdude. Search under that user name.

Let me know when you're ready to order the chassis. I am the East coast Ftoy chassis vendor. I can also help you locate all the little doodads you'll need to convert the truck.

I searched and that wasn't the one. Actually, that is a little more elaborate than I was planning. Basically, I just wanted to take and mount the headlight buckets/turn signals to the chassis at the corners where the front "grille hoop" would be and then narrow the grille to fit between them like one would do to narrow a pickup. I'd still keep the chassis and the frame as the front-most part of the truck, just puttin the donor stuff between the top tube of the chassis and the frame with maybe a filler or fairlead under the grille. Out back I was just planning on making some tabs on the connecting tubes running from the frame to the chassis tube and then just screwing the donor taillights and trying to use the factory harness as a whole (with alotta loom..lol). I may be over-complicating it but in my mind i'm trying to cut cost by using what's there instead of buying new lights, gauges, harness, ect. and trying to make factory stuff work. Also, if I break something, i could just goto another truck and it would plug right in...

YES!!! That one is the one i saw. But.... I see he used tubing around the outside of the park lights (what I will be using for turn signals), and he isn't using the actual headlight where I will be. But, that is the where I got the inspiration for what I wanna do. I see he also used the donor hood? to make a hood for the buggy. I may also do that to save on sheet metal if I can make it work. Also, what are you all doing to help with mud?? I personally don't like mud, but in NC, it's something we have to live with. I was planning on somehow making the firewall, floor, side panels, and the area behind the "cab area" go all the way to the tubes of the chassis to help. I'm used to mud with the doors off my old crawler, so a little isn't bad, but I don't want a big glob of mud smacking me in the face...lol.

I like the fj40 grille in this one! I'll bet a 80 would look good also!

I found that moving to the desert really helps out with the mud.:flipoff2:

Yeah, I've found it to be a necessary evil around here. I used to be all about hitting the mud, but now I avoid it as much as I can...

I like both of those set ups. I saved my hood, fenders, and doors from my donor truck. I wish I would have save my radiator core support and bed sides.

No, I saw that one. That's a little too much body for what I'm wanting. This is close to what I wanna do, but use the actual headlights from the donor truck and turn the markers into turnsignals...
