my new headers are ceramic coated, should i wrap them too, or do they not need to be wrapped when they're ceramic coated? what's the point of header wrap?

thanks:homer:

Header wrap helps control the heat they emanate which gets trapped under the hood that causes any number of problems. The wrap is not needed in most cases, but it helps. Up where I live alot of guys don't wrap them because the extra heat is nice in the winter. Where as alot of guys down south wrap them. It can't hurt to wrap them if you have the time and space to wrap them.

depends .... wrap holds moister and the headers will rust faster ..

I wrap mine to keep the heat off the starter and it helps me stand close to the motor while tuning. I like it ....

every painted header i have owned said not to wrap them. hookers, headmans and dynomax.

thanks for the replies. i think i'll put the headers on and see what kind of heat they put out before i buy the wrap.

No need for wrap as the ceramic does the same thing as wrap but better.

Turbo applications use wrap in cross over and down pipes for racing applications, but swing to ceramic coating for these applications will phase out wrap.

High temp silicone applied to headers before starting wrap then heat cured, then applied to each layer of wrap and heat cured for each layer will greatly reduce or even eliminate rust through on header pipes when using wrap been there done that.

I only wrapped sections where i know something will get burned like started, plug wires, etc..
