: My tube winch bumper, pics.
1TON73K5 11-30-2008, 07:39 PM I had it powder coated White to match my burb. It's my first bending project. I actually started it a while ago, just finally got tired of it sitting in my garage so I finished it up and coated it. Have not mounted the frame adapters that mount to the bumper and frame farther back on the frame horns close to the crossmember, just mounted the bumper then took pics. I'm going to make a crossmember that's like an X brace to strengthen the frame horn's that incorperates a skid plate too to fill in the space underneath the winch area.

Ridin' High 11-30-2008, 08:57 PM That is one hell of a bumper! What are you plans for your burban?

eventually a 14FF, D60, 6' lift front springs, shackle flip in rear w/ 2in lift springs, a decent cage, 42's, not sure on the motor yet. It's a 350 TBI but I don't have to smog it so I could put something cool into it. Would like to bob it, cut the top in the back, just a couple of mods or 20. :D

just4cuz 12-01-2008, 03:52 PM Front of the Sub looks like a 6 lug 10 bolt with dual shocks. Did the 1 ton 3 leaf springs come with it or did you install them? What size tires are on the Sub now? Gonna make another of those bumpers for the Blazer? The bumper looks like it would offer plenty of protection. The wraparound is seemingly heavy duty, what does the whole thing weigh minus the winch?
mudskipper4x4 12-01-2008, 04:26 PM I think you might have to rework the part that ties in by the leaf spring when you run the 42s. ? It looks like the current tires will almost rub when at full lock. I could be wrong though.
mudskipper4x4 12-01-2008, 04:27 PM oh yeah I almost forgot... Looks good:flipoff2:

It is a 6 lug 10 bolt with factory dual shocks. It is a stock burb. I'm running 33 X 12.50 15's for now. I might make another one for my K5, not sure yet. I was suposed to weigh it and never did. I can pick it up very akwardly and install it by my self though. My back was sore fot three days last time though. I would say round 150/175 range??? It's a guesstimate ofcourse. I could measure the length of the tube and come up with a closer number. I don't think It's really that heavy for a winch bumper.

It's might get into it with 42's. I may not go that big either. It's not going to be my main trail rig. I should just keep it to 37 max tire with a 6" lift and call it good.

Oh, and thanks! :D
just4cuz 12-01-2008, 05:19 PM So those front springs were on it when you got it? They are the same as one ton stock truck springs and usually don't come in a half ton, unless it was a diesel. Saying you don't have to smog it leads me to believe it must have started out a diesel, since that year truck here in So.Cal would require smog every 2 years.

I didn't buy the truck new, but those springs were in it when I bought it, as far as I can tell it's 100% bone stock except for the wheels and tires I put on it. It's a factory stock 350 TBI burb. Ofcourse I took the sway bar off. I can tell you those springs are not stiff at all, quite flexy really. It's a caugh caugh, 74', some might say it sure looks like a 89' but thats not what the reg says ;)
It is a 1/2 ton, I checked all the RPO codes from the gloove box and it's got a good factory package. Tow, rear air, power windows, factory trans cooler, limited slip. It just has a tall gear in it, wierd. I dig the truck, just needs a motor, It knocks, so I need to rebuild it or crate motor it. I like the crate motor option.
just4cuz 12-01-2008, 09:30 PM Ah, OK. The springs are not stock and were probably installed by the previous owner. I am pretty sure the only Subs that had those springs from the factory were diesels. Maybe a snow plow package might have had them, but they are not common to most Subs. You are right, they flex pretty well and have tons of droop. They are a good upgrade for a stock Suburban or any other Chevy truck for that matter, especially with the sway bar removed. Is the rear end a 10 bolt also?

Unfortunately, it won't be for long. I have a 14FF for it. My K5 is my main project right now, the burb is just for fun. NOT going to tear into it yet.
just4cuz 12-01-2008, 09:49 PM How tall are the gears 3.42? Those are pretty tall if thats what you have.

I think thats about right. I know their not even 3.73's. with 37's I will probably go 4.88's.
bigDREW 12-01-2008, 11:07 PM dimond plate step adds a nice touch. Should come in handy when working under the engine compartment once you lift it. Don't think that i would have gone with white but still looks really nice!
1TON73K5 12-02-2008, 02:31 PM I would like to add some texture onto the Diamond plate as it's kinda slippery with the powder coat. I thought about having the diamond area line-Xed when I have the truck interior done. Would look kinda cool I think.
Super Steve 12-04-2008, 03:54 PM ill take 2 shipped to 06457:D

jopickens 01-03-2009, 05:53 PM What kind of tri-pod jack stands do you have under the front of that blazer? Nice and high...
philadelphia 01-04-2009, 02:49 PM I must say that i'm loving that fab work.Great design.
Is that a small body lift you have on the burban? I noticed what looks like aluminum pucks mounted..

There just regular pipe jacks like you would find at a weld shop.

You are correct sir :D
bigblazerboy 01-09-2009, 08:34 PM that bumper just screams beefy. i like it but it is kind of overpowering the rest of the burb. with some bigger tires it would look mean

I agree, built it as a first tube project for my bender when I got it. Plan is to lift it bout 6", run 1 tons and 38's at some point. It will looks good then.
XtremeYukon 01-17-2009, 10:58 AM Do you think you could make one for a 95 yukon? What would you charge?
