Just got finished building a sami with fj60 axles and fj power steering box with a toyota truck p/s pump. 4” longer on the w/b, toy rear springs front and rear, fj drive shaft in the front, machined a adapter that bolts the fj to the sami flang, Toyota truck front drive shaft in the rear. Chevy Disc brakes on the rear. Happy with every thing but added weight has robed a lot of power, even with the 4:1 gears in the transfer case. Axles have 3:70 gears, what gears are out there for these axles?http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0LwBSDGkOyDlq9cpmlvXLRFWdnQQOUaTbL7OpAvWtvriRCgwTZ W5!o7aj0bTRTMA5JkV1GCx0e30/MVC-003F.JPG

you can get 3.90, 4.10, 4.56, 4.88, and 5.29's for teh TLC diff's, only downfall is sinc ehtey're a C-clip rear you have to grind the ring gear teeth to get the cross pin back in on 4.88 and lower :(

I put 4.88s in mine. the 5.29s weren't available when I put it in. I had to grind quite a bit to get the pin in, made me a little uncomfortable. I'd hate to see how much you have to grind to get the 5.29s in.

I had to grind more than half of two teeth off my Ford 8.8 Axle in my jeep at one point to get the pin in... I was leery, but don't be afraid, even Randy's Ring and Pinion said "Go for it, we'll warranty it if it breaks" and since install requires it, id say don't worry about it... Just position the ring gear on the carrier so that only 1 tooth needs to be trimmed and at most 2... Hugh

I am putting in LC axles now with Shaffers coil kit and will also be using the FJ steering box. How well does it turn with that box and pump. Got any pictures?

Dang, Lots of FJ axle guys coming out of the woodwork...:flipoff2:
I am also putting a set of fj60 axles under a sami, and will be using the fj60 steering box as well. I'm starting from the frame up. I still need to acquire a couple more items and i will be ready to put everything together. No pics yet, but i do have a few sketches i may put up on my website/post.

rockslammer,
what size tires are you planning on running? I have a set of 36-12.50 SX's to go on. For gearing, i'm gonna do the ultra low budget:D dual sami cases(1-stock, 1-4.89) and see how it works.

Hank,
Will do, should be within the next month or 2.
After seeing several dual sami case setups, (some hack jobs, some decent) i'm convinced it can be done... However, to do it "properly" it will not be a simple bolt in "bracket kit" deal. I will be fabricating all custom mounts for the tranny and t-cases and incorporating a full belly skid pan.

Why all the pissing around grinding gears to use a c-clip rear end?

Go full-floater - ala FJ45. :flipoff2:

when putting the pins back in you can grind one side of the pin istead of grindign on the ring gear just grind one side flat
the side that does nut go against the end of the axles
