: What's the best Off-road/4x4 magazine?
sim_sun@msn.com 12-02-2008, 09:46 AM My husbands is on here all the time, so I'd thought I'd ask you guys for help.
I want to get him some magazine subscriptions for X-mas - what do you think is the best 4x4/off-roading magazine out there? Or even just car mags too? I am getting him Grassroots Motorsports because he loves it but I don't know about off-road.
He's a down and dirty guy, doesn't care about how good things look. Very do-it-yourself-er. He has a mid 80's Jeep CJ-7.
Thanks a lot!
mudskipper4x4 12-02-2008, 11:17 AM Jp or 4 wheel and offroad, or even 4 wheeler. Those are the ones I subscribe to. I like Pirate 4x4 alot better than the mags though.
sim_sun@msn.com 12-02-2008, 11:55 AM yeah but he doesn't often bring his laptop into the bathroom with him, if you know what I mean!
Thanks
RedBullJeep 12-02-2008, 12:09 PM buy him a red star on pirate
bbaxter51 12-02-2008, 12:34 PM i'm a big fan of CRAWL. it's the most expensive mag, but it's worth it in my opinion. It's not packed 3/4 full of advertising and there's some pretty good tech in every issue.

if they decide to send you issues!
GMCTruxrule 12-02-2008, 06:32 PM Petersens 4 Wheel & Offroad and Four Wheeler are my two favorites for the toilet duty.
Throw in a Car Craft mag for some engine tech. He will be good to go.:smokin:
Corey Young 12-03-2008, 12:32 AM CRAWL

Aren't you a darling!
By a long shot "Crawl" is the best rockcrawling off road mag out there. It only comes once every 2 months. ( I am sure there is a joke in there somewhere).
Anyhow..........it is so full of excellent reading that one issue can last almost 2 months. Go to subscribe@crawlmag.com
Goodluck since they are not always really quick with getting thier subscriptions out the door. The office phone is 877-75crawl It is unlike any other motorsports mag out there. Excellent articles, photography, etc. All they need is a centerfold!
I don't subscribe to any others but I also like 4wd and sport utility.
Happy motoring
Adam F 12-03-2008, 01:23 PM Crawl!
If you cant get a sub through them, Petersons 4wheel
CanadianZuk 12-03-2008, 01:25 PM Can4x4

TrueBlueXJ 12-05-2008, 05:22 AM Crawl FTW. And if you're on the East Coast, LowRange.
TachedOutOffRoad 12-06-2008, 09:19 AM Crawl is always cool . . . when it comes :flipoff2: Lots of 4x4 porn and high$$$ rigs
Petersons 4WD is head and shoulders over the other large ones. They just did an article on how to properly lincoln lock a diff!!
4Wheeler features trucks that literally have open diffs and 46"s on a dana 44 :shaking: I literally started just throwing then away after that :D
Australian 4wd monthly is really cool if you are a Toyota/ Land Rover guy.
Yota Up 12-06-2008, 10:10 AM yeah but he doesn't often bring his laptop into the bathroom with him, if you know what I mean!
Thanks
Ah ha!
In that case, buy him a wireless router! Problem solved.

flatlander757 12-06-2008, 01:28 PM I like 4wheel/offroad and JP magazine myself, but I spotted the most recent issue of Crawl at the local Barnes and Noble and it is a fantastic magazine. Nowhere near as much stupid advertising as the Petersen's mags, lots of good tech, awesome articles, and a lot of sweet pictures too.
jeep937 12-06-2008, 02:06 PM JP

Jp
4 wheel and offroad

Jeepy1981cj 12-08-2008, 05:48 AM I usually buy JP, and low range. I'm anxiously awaiting the next issue of Crawl but it is very hard to find here. There is an article on our local "hardcore" trail. I don't know how they ever found their way up here?
jam0o0 12-08-2008, 09:39 PM there is crawl and then there is everything else. petersons and 4wheeler run the same articles half of the time. both decent. good job spending some time trying to get the best for your guy.
JpSuperDuty 12-09-2008, 09:44 PM CRAWL X 100:p
