Do a search for Pat Gremillion or Jason Paule. They both have narrowed early broncos. Not buggies either. Full bodies.

Doug K

whose purple bronco is that? Did it used to belong to Tim from Bronco Alley? I REALLY want to narrow my EB and that is a pretty sweet idea/... I'd like to see how much weight it saved.

Gordon

nicest narrowed EB is Tim's of Bronco Alley.

Doug K
08-14-2002, 02:28 PM
he sold it to a guy name Chris Towry... He lives here in TX, and is one of the guys who got me to buy an EB to begin with.

Here's and EB one of the guys in our club made into a tube buggy. He's run EROCC with it. I think the frame, grille, and clutch peddle are all that is left of the Bronco.

heay texas tea.... refresh my memory about dovetailing.... what exactly does that do???

Doug K
08-14-2002, 02:44 PM
It leaves my rig wide in the middle and front and makes the rear about 7-12" narrower...kinda tapered. I want to do something with the front, but I haven't decided what yet...

It's 5" narrower in the middle and 13'' in the front.

Ok, I know you are sick of seeing this thing, but I've got 80 hours in narrowing it another 4" (don't ask).
It's now 7" less in the middle and 10" in the front

There is a lot of info on this board - do a search for JR and/or fatcity Bronco and you will get a lot of specs on that fine EB.

Thanks guys, here is a little bit more information on it.

And BTW, a stock Broco will just squeeze through a 68 inch wide gap.

I love that EB JR! I have a question for you though.

Seems alot of folks are going light weight, smaller/lighter motors, D44's, and 37" tires. Do you feel the stroker, heavy axles, and 42" Swampers make up for the extra weight they add?

I used to dream about SUPER low crawling ability, but now it seems like people are finding out the throttle gets you further.

I have the D60's, Atlas, and I'm trying to decide if I want to use the 5.0L in the trail rig, or go with the 393 stroker I'm building.

What to do!?!?

JR
08-14-2002, 11:20 PM
KingOf_Pain, If you already have the 60s and atlas go Big on the motor. Why not. It's more inertainment.
Super fly-wieght rigs seem to be great for all out compition where the wieght ratio between spotter and vehicle can be closer.
I 'wheel with the fly-wieghts. They get stuck just like the rest of us !

I'm not a big advocate of low gears especailly with an auto. Swapped out a Atlas 4.3 for a 3.0. :)

JR
08-14-2002, 11:42 PM
The fly-weights do better at crawling steep rock ledges, defying gravity like a weightless spider.
The same ledge done with a heavier rig is less graceful, but more entertaining. :D

That ius the same one in the Katemcy pictures... it's now owned by Chris Towry, a really good buddy of lee novikoff's... I never understood why Tim cut the "humps" off the front fenders...that's one of my favorite EB signatures.

I here yea. Tim said he did it for more visibility.
At one point, Tim had leading-link suspension ( like Walker Even's S10) on the front of the purple bronco. It was all tig welded chromo, took for ever to build. He wasn't happy with it though and never tried it outside the shop. Tim cut it all off before any pictures were even taking!

Thats a friend of mine, Chris Holley's '69 Bronco. It was in Petersons about 6 mos ago(?), the article was called 'The Iceman' I think. It's been narrowed 8" down the middle and shortened between the doors 4", plus the rear quarterpanels were dove-tailed. He does compete in UROC and will be in Vernal this weekend for that reason. Its killer both on the trail and in competition, considering it's still a Bronco w/ the Dana 44 and 9" surviving the abuse.
