Im wondering if there is anything i should know about this specific model/year. Its automatic and he says the engine ticks a little bit but that it doesnt knock...

Also, how good of a platform is this for mild to moderate wheeling?

bump it or crawl it?

Make sure the engine tic is not an exhaust leak. THey can sound very similar. That engine although reliable had a head gasket recall. Make sure that was taken care of by the previous owner. There was also a rely rod recall in the steering system. Check on that as well.

My wife has a 91 4 runner and it has been a good vehicle for us. That motor doesn't want to show any power up here in the mountains till you get it over 3000 rpms. We live at 7000 feet and work at 9-10,000 feet. If you are at a lower altitude it is probably better.

Any toyota seems to be a good platform for wheeling. If you are going to get more hardcore you will want to take out the independant suspension up front and swap in a solid axle. Check out the toyota pages here on pirate. The sky is the limit really. The price seems fair. Start at 1,500.00 I know of a 91 out here with a perfect body for 3000.

Sounds like it has been well maintained. As long as the motor runs good, Id be all over it.

Ifs is great for mild wheeling as long as you dont mind alot of 3 wheeling. i ran 35s for a long time b4 i did my sas! did me well.. but overall if you ever get more serious. i wont hold up for the serious stuff

I couldn't get my IFS to last on 33s. I changed 3 CVs in less than two weeks. Did I mention the grenaded spiders too? I was NOT even close to beating on it either. It now has a SAS with 30 spline Longs.:flipoff2:

What kind of mileage can i expect out of the v6? Im guessing its a 3.0...? How much better would it be with a manual trans?
