I have, since 5:00 pm, cleaned every gun i own, along with some silverware, a pocket knife, and the bronze filter from my ARB compressor:flipoff2:
On to the important crap...
The directions specifically say that you MUST use water, and that using flammable or "corrosive" liquids will damage the machine, along with also voiding the warranty.
Is this just a bunch of scare tactics, or should i really not use brakleen or isporopyl alcohol?
What sayeth the PBB...
.
NastyNate 12-03-2008, 05:54 PM Not sure about brakleen, but my smith uses simple green diluted in his.

Take some nasty brass that is all brown and shitty looking and see if it will clean that. Before and after pics appreciated, if it does a good job I will get one of those instead of a tumbler.

I use highly corrosive fluid in mine(it will literally eat aluminum into nothing, and the skin off your hand for that matter), but its all stainless steel. Flammable, I would not use, the fluid in mine gets very hot after about 20 mins.
Tim84K10 12-03-2008, 10:41 PM I'm interested to hear how they work.
And if every gun you own will fit in there, you need to order an AR from Pete RIGHT NOW!
SilverZuk 12-04-2008, 05:34 AM They use high frequency sound waves to vibrate dirt loose.

I had to take them apart...worked WONDERS on my AR bolt, also on my 25colt, and also worked pretty well on my .32 ACP 1911, it also seemed to clean the shit out of my remington 1100 FCG..

afterward. Noticably cleaner only by the crud left at the bottom of the tank...also "felt" a little cleaner.

Munchies 12-04-2008, 02:47 PM More ultrasonic brass cleaning info than you will ever need
http://www.6mmbr.com/ultrasonic.html
DavidVanVorous 12-04-2008, 04:15 PM Been doing acetone, trichloroethane (AKA Brakleen), freon etc in ultrasonics for ~30+ years without ado to clean stuff prior to putting the parts in vacuum coating systems. The good ones have a double tank that one fills the sub tank with water then fills the immersion tank with solvent. Others like some of the sophisticated Branson units one just puts the solvent in the tank and the parts above then let the vapors go (ultra sonic vapor degreasers are the trade name in that case). Those also have a spray wand to deal with stubborn goo.
The one in the pics could be used in a double tank manner just be aware that any plastics on the face and elsewhere WILL dissolve with most solvents...
Frankly to avoid the vapor issues generated by the ultrasonics best to stick with the water based cleaners as most do as good or better job than organic solvents anyway if run slightly warm. Just be aware that they can sometimes do too good a job, with steel parts like bearings in particular rusting up solid after allowed to set for a spell iffen they arent immediately oiled after cleaning... BTDT. ;)
On edit, I might add that the cleanliness is definitely a function of the cleanliness of the bath meaning one cant get stuff clean iffen the bath is black and groody even with the activity imparted by the ultrasonic action...

Dude if I don't have to clean primer pockets I will pay 56 dollars for one.
I imagine that this would be best just to clean the primer pockets and sizing lube off of cases before going in the tumbler. I think this will be my plan of action, that and use it to clean the nastiness off my gun that is left as a result of 8.5 grains of Bullseye.

Maybe i will try the mixtures that this guy talks about.
Just make sure if you print your harbor freight coupon from the internet that you don't cut off the expiration date.:homer:
SilverZuk 12-05-2008, 07:03 AM I use a brass cleaning solution that cost $2 per gallon and works great.
I put it in a plastic tub, pour in the solution to cover the brass, and occasionally shake.
I have also used it in my Thumlers Tumbler.
It is a mild acid that won't burn you. It is called vinegar.
