guy says it runs good, that is the worst of the rust on the body, he has a new fender and signal lense for it too, but it needs a paintjob.

$800, think its a good deal?

If yo need the spare parts I would go for it. Looks like a good deal for a parts ruck or a wheeler if your lacking.
However, if it is to build for a wheeler, I dont know about you but if it was me I would start with somehing more reliable (read: newer), but that is if I had to do it all over again.

If I started all over again I would start with something like an S10 with a good, strong 4.3 and work off of that instead of a junker and work up.

it would be for a daily driver/mild wheeler (35s at the most) while i build my other rig.

i would probably eventually build it into an all out buggy though.

I would go for it. Hell offer him 600 for it. The rust is no big deal and the carb'd engines are very easy to work on if need be. Make sure to double-check the engine compartment and the underside of the body where the seats are. Those places like to rust too. Also check the underside of the body where the t-case and tranny are. That area will tell you how bad the thing leaks.

You live in the north east so I would look for rust in the frame near the mounts for the rear springs.

buy it its cheap enough that u could make the $$ back parting it out or flipping it with a good paint job and a little work for a lot more $$ than u will have into it.

I'd do it for that price, especially if it runs well. It's an '85, correct? If so then you're buying the solid front axle which is preferable to the IFS. I wouldn't give two shakes what the interior looks like - Lord knows that a 20 year-old Toyota interior will show its age!

Like someone else said, offer him $600 if there's no major structural or rust problems. I paid more than that for our '84 which is in good shape and am happy that I did!

Good luck,

Make sure to check the frame for major rust! Around the rear hangers, and also the inner side of the frame under the bed. Take a big screwdriver and use it to get flakes off and see if you can dig it into any holes.

As long as the frame is somewhat solid, and it probably is if that's the original bed still on it with that little rust, go for it! Though personally I'd rather get one with EFI, even if it's IFS. Solid axle swap is easier than an EFI swap.
