Just got my bull bar installed and would like some advice on the best size winch to save up for. The only winch that I have experience with was an OLD 8274 with in cab controls, used it a lot, but then again it was on my 67 jeep.

I'm assuming you have a wagon?
The Warn M12k and M15k are the weapons of choice in our club, theyare a tight fit but fairly easy, you have to use a die grinder for clearance in one area, about 1/2" and rotate the control box, by simply loosening the hose clamp which secures it to the motor.
ARB, unless they have changed say they won't fit......but they will.
IF you have a 40, then any of the Warn's of 9k or over will work, the 8274 most common choice but most $$$
