Yeah, you should just lose the top, doors, and windshield. If you roll it, you will most likely crunch the body anyways, then it'll be worthless. Better to sell it while you can and use the $$ elsewhere.

Interesting -- how much space do you have between the thrid member and the oil pan?

http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/attachment.php?s=&postid=764244

I'm imagining some pretty massive bumpstops up front... otherwise you might actually snap the crank if you jumped it. Not like the Rockwell is gonna giv!

The axle is actually out in front of the motor, under the radiator. It can't get to the oil pan unless there is some massive damage to the suspension (ala Frankie Fountain).

You better come on if you want the first scratch, cause it's hittin' the rocks this weekend!:D

You better come on if you want the first scratch, cause it's hittin' the rocks this weekend!

Where are you taking it this weekend? We (East TN 4WD) are going to Spring City, its supposed to be an easy ride with some real good hill climbs. We need to go wheelin sometime (since we're both Knoxvillians) before the end of Sept. when I leave for School!

Sweet! Can't wait until I move up to east TN and get out of this hell hole called Florida.

Glad to see yall are finally catching on!!

Where/what is that???? Everytime I've gone it's been with the woman so we stay in a hotel or don't sleep and drive home at night. I guess I actually get to wheel for two days this time :D

I'll be meeting you guys EARLY Sat morning.

It's on the Tellico side of the mountain, not far from trail 1. Some consider it a motel, but it's not really more than a toilet with a roof.

No offense, but that cage is a piece of crap. You have 6 relatively long tubes connecting the top hoop (roof) to the frame/rails and every one of them has a bend in it. It will buckle and wad up in an instant.

Two pieces of advice: 1) don't take it off road; 2) TRIANGULATE

no offense but your an ass........... but as much of an ass you are, id agree that the cage isnt the best design.... i would also bet that he, 350sam, knows that its not the best design..... i think he is skilled enough to build what he needs, just hasnt gotten to it yet....

as for you? your just an ASS, no offense

Not that you ever plan to but speaking from experience you should seriously consider designing a cage for in the event that you roll it over backwards or endo it over forwards. He might be an ass for saying he shouldn't take it off road but the observation is correct and maybe he is genuinely concerned about the safety and wellbeing of sami350. Seriously do something about that cage so you can get it! What does your sami now weigh? I'm curious to see how far off in weight we are. I need to weigh mine this coming week.

well i've got to say that just looking at it it looks bad ass, how did you get the 350 in the engine bay? i couldn't tell in the pics but it looked like you hadn't stretched the front. i give it 2 thumbs up and want to see some action shots

He's an ass for popping in on his first post and acting like a know it all newbie. First look at the rig, obviously someone who built that knows what he is doing and can build a safe cage if he has the time and desire. He doesn't know who 350sammy is or if he's planning on fabricating a new cage, some of us regulars do know the guy (notice we didn't critisize the cage because we know he'll build it correctly). He also an ass because he's new so :flipoff2:

Heres the story on the cage: I got it out of the garage for the first time on May 25th. I took it wheeling pretty hard the next day, just to see if anything would break.
Monteagle (Rosser Roundup) was the next weekend, so we threw a cage on it just so it would be "legal".
I know it's a POS, but thats what you get when you pay your help in beer, use a new bender that nobody had used yet and don't really care what it looks like because you're in a hurry.
I've been wheeling in it every weekend since then, except for the EROCC events and figured it would be ok until I had more time.
Bottom line: I'm definitely changing it.
And it's 115" wheelbase and 4500 lbs (2620 front, 1880 rear)

It's amazing what you can do with a little bondo. The hood is stretched 9 1/2".

hey YJ rocker...Who r u?

350 sammi, I like it - only thing I was gonna do is toos soome ideas at ya.

I'd make a internal cage (simple hoops and two spreaders would work) then make a brace straight up to the 4 corners of your exo through the roof...

also put a cross bar between the two front uprights, then maybe make front shock hoops with a motor cage, and tie some lateral bars into the front uprights to your cage, just run those through the fenders into shock hoops, I think that would make it pretty strong, of course I have seen telico ball up some stout cages!!

and keep hte roof, nothing like being able to go out in the rain and stay dry if ya need to!! you can always take the doors off...a strong cage will keep anything from getting to messed up...

I got a xtra window frame for my YJ and cut the bottom off of it - then put plexiglass in it that will clip into the top of my cage bottom of frame bolts on and I still get wipers, but tree brances won't break the glass out !!
