I've got a jetski trailer, gross weight prob 2600lbs with both skis on it.

I have a stock fj40 with 33's, 4 inch lift and ext shackles. 1975 with 4 wheel disks and power steering.

The truck, which I've had for 20 yrs, has the stock rear tubular steel "bumper" with the stock "bumperettes" attached. At least, I think they are called bumperettes.

that's the web page from sor.com that shows what i'm talking about. #14 is the bumperette, and #45 is what I think is the stock rear bumper peice which is attached at both sides to the frame of the truck.

is that appropriate to have my trailer hitch attached to? the cross member i mean, not the bumperette.

My truck came with (stock? previous owner?) a trailer hitch bolted by 4 large bolts to that cross member. The bolt heads are accessible from the rear of the truck if I'm standing behind the truck. The trailer hitch itself is a 90 degree peice of heavy angle iron with a 45 degree reinforcement peice.

towing newb, what can I say?

I tow my popup with the same setup and I have no problems.

thanks.

I just poked around the specter site a bit, and found their trailer hitch section... looks like that cross member is where their hitch attaches to using the same 4 bolt holes, although they also have 2 vertical bolts which require drilling the bottom of that cross member.

I think it will test your brakes. I would want them in tip top shape, if not uprated. In any case take a 1/2 hour and test it out in a parking lot.

Edit: I see you have 4 wheel disks... never-mind uprated blablabla...

You should check the rating in your ball, hitch, safety chains etc. Should be stamped. I seem to recall class 2 tops out at 2000 lbs.
