: Cooling issues all fixed...

Just to follow up with those of you that have been following this and offering some EXCELLENT advice......

Georg, thanks for the tips on the tranny coolers.....I tried and tried and could not get the tranny over 180* today....It mostly ran at 165*. I am running it through the Radiator cooler and then to the 14 x 14 TruCool "oil" cooler. Kicks ass!

As for the engine, these TruCool coolers take up the entire open space in the bezel on the Cruiser. I had to mount them high because the radiator slopes back from the bottom and the thickness of the TruCool coolers made clearance an issue.

I ended up hacking off the Hella 500's and light tabs (time for a new look anyway) and turning my Bezel upside down. Then, I cut the entire inner fender out of the drivers side and 1/4 of the passenger side out.

Finally, I am going to install a rubber flap to keep the fan from sucking the air from the engine compartment back in front of the radiator.

On the test run, I held 220* at 75MPH. Earlier before the air flow mods, I only got to 55MPH for 6 miles before it was heading over 230* and I pulled over to cool down.

As High5 said, it was an airflow issue and it looks as if it is solved.

Again, thanks for all of your help and advice!!!

Tried going to a later bezel? The square ones have more airflow, and I heard they have slightly more fan space, too.

OK, would Kate look more :rainbow: with a flipped Bezel or one of those "Square" ones?

I'm asking....do the holes all line up?

Hey! There's nothing :rainbow: about a square bezel! :flipoff2:

I could be wrong, but I understood that the headlights were a little farther apart on the square bezel Cruisers as the DOT mandated a minimum seperation in 79. I could be way off though. We'll take measurements tonite at the meeting.

Bitch, I got one of those Square ones (somewhere ;))
:flipoff2:

The holes do not line up at all....

You would have to get a later bib

That's damn sure not going to happen.....

If I trash this bib, I will be going the way of the Spaceghost.....

In the mean time, I will flip the bezel, :rainbow: as it is :flipoff2:

Nolan,
I am running synthetic (Amsoil) fluids throughout in my Powerstroke tow rig. The auto tranny temps are an issue when towing heavy and hard on steep grades, and really bad in reverse manuevering the trailer. I found that the synthetic ran a little cooler, but the bigger benefit is that it doesn't give up at 230-240 like dino oils do. Most recomend discarding fluids that reach those temps for any time at all. The synthetics live to over 300. Expect price shock, but I am a believer in this stuff. If you go this route, gotta drain the torque converter also.

Glad you gotta grip on the heat issue.

Drove to the club meeting tonight and the tranny never budged over 150* and the engine went to 215* and never went a bit higher.

Unless I am doing 80mph, the Overdrive is worthless with these 42's!

Berkley had fun...we wasted a 92 Turbo RX-7 at a stoplight on the way home. Berkley was laughing out loud at the sound of that LT-1 wrapped up!

Hey Nolan,

I see you're liking the LT1 motor. Yes, there are just some things you can do with a V8 motor.. :D :D :D
