Hello, I planning on building up my 91 rrc. Already have HD ome springs and spacers and 32' mt's. Would like to go with a 35" tire. Are stock axles strong enough? Rearend? What should be the priority upgrade. Thanks, Matt

NO! 35" tires will grenade your diff carriers the first time you roll it off the trailer.

32" tires are about as tall as one can safely go with Rover axles and at that, you'd at the very least want the later 24 spline axle shafts.

HD axle shafts will help, but the weak link will then be the diff carrier. While you're at it, get rid of the B/W transfer case and swap in an LT-230.

Even a cursory search would have revealed all of this.

PTSchram, at what tire size would you say the B/W becomes marginal?

That is like asking if a true-trac is better than a Detroit and will only get us all into a pissing match.

Very few serious wheelers retain the B/W.

Definately get at least 24 splines and a new carrier. Then ditch the b/w. 35s are hard even on built rover axles. If you can get a salsbury they are definately alot better.

Point well taken, and thanks for the tip. Looks like an easy swap, and I have a line on one. I figure two years to get my axles in, so a few more for the t-case; look for a bad Toyota Land Rangie on the trails in aboot 5 years :lmao:

LOL, Don't be like me and end up with piles of parts, a rusted out truck and no time to assemble the vehicle.

Salisburys are not always a good route, also front Salisburys are really hard to find in the US. That said, for the rear axle, I personally love the idea of the Salisbury axle.

Keith's Toyota setup is certainly able to withstand the rigors of 35s and should be bullet-proof for that size tire.

The BW is junk. LT230 would be one of the first on my list for a classic.

You are a fast learner. Keep it up.
