Well, I'm almost afraid to show ya'll the pics because you'll probably pic them to hell and back and point out every design flaw in it, but here is the finished 1/4 elip suspension! (Hope the links work.) (Saving for 44" tires right now.) The second pic is as high as my jack would go.

And, of course, to clear the "high-clearance" lower links, I had to do some chopping:

<<EDIT: Damnit, just look at all four pics! I can't wait to get access to my web site again!>>

Skip the 44's you need some of those 48's for that kind of lift!

Looks great, hope you LOVE it!

Do you anticipate interference between your "lower links" and the frame as the axle articulates??? It looks like the top of the arch might swing through one heck of an arc as the axle twists.

Also what size tires are those now??? Are you worried about your front 60 with 44s???

i'm willing to bet if anything like the frame gets in the way he'll chop it off! those are 38.5 tsl's aren't they?
looks cool to me. once you get those 44's its gonna rock!

The springs are late 70's-era rear Chevy 1-ton packs with the overloads left in them. I left only one leaf out and the spring rate seems to be perfect. Some testing on the trails will tell me more about that though. I'm a little worried about the front d60 with 44" tires, but with the talk of companies coming out with alloy shafts for them, I can sleep at night. If worse came to worse, I could always get some Rockwells. The back portion of the frame is coming off today. :D I also plan on adding a sway-bar at some point. Oh, and the wheelbase is 118" at rest, which came as a small surprise to me. I intended it to be ~112", which it was until I set it down and the links puched the rear axle back a ways. :) I'll see how I like this wheelbase and the bent links, and go from there. The tires now are 38.5x16 TSL that my brother got for free in the back of a $400 pickup that he bought!

lol those are all links to the same pic and i still looked at every one noticing that. are you going to roll it on its side and drag it out of your garage? Looks great and i dig the rear links. too much lift though and i plan on a similar design on the links but lower of course.

I think y'all are confused by the pic. That's not its resting height. As you can see the leaf spring is arched down and he has jack stands under the frame to try and flex it out some. from the looks of it it'll sit about 12"s or more lower at resting height.

A 35 spline D60 will hold up fine to 44's.....

If not, get some of these from Sunray Engineering (http://www.sunrayengineering.com)

I hope you are gunna limit how much the entire axle as well as the axle ends can down travel or you'll end up like others and have the rear end coming down so far it wants to start traveling under the vehicle and roll you over faster than you can say stupid. Are you worried about dragging on stuff or not being able to get around corners very well with such a long Wheel Base? What kind of wheelin do you do?

I am worried about turning a little, but I'm going to have cutting brakes. Bottoming out is something that you have to live with no matter what the wheelbase is, in my experience. :) I hope the 44" tires will help me there though. I will limit the travel so my wheelbase doesn't get too short on me. I wheel on the rocks, in the mud, through the water, up steep hills, down steep hills, and in the forest. If there's no road, I'll go there. But I would also like to compete a little. So my goal was to create a competitve, yet, all-around truck. Oh, and there's four pics in that albumn. The first one just happens to be the one that all those links go to and also the one where I had it jacked up working on it. If you go to the other pics, you'll see the ride-height. It's actually very low, IMO. The floor-board sits about level with my brother's lifted Toyota that runs 35" tires, and I don't anticipate having to go any higher to fit the 44" TSLs.

Hoaky? WTF does that mean? Are the links on the wagoneer machine shop trucks hoaky? If you think they are I think you should rethink your definition of hoaky.

okey dokey?

Here's my thoughts on the subject after reviewing the pics several times. It's really not that high when you consider that there are no front fenders and the rears are chopped to the very top of the tub.

What makes this thing ugly/funny lookin' is the extreme wheelbase! If the rear tires were pushed back forward say about a foot or so, it would look prety cool. But as of now, I think it just looks silly.

I realize this is just my opinion, but I tend to be somtimes to honest, so please forgive my rudeness.;)

ya there pretty hoaky as i said, and ive wheeled with the wagonere machine guys many of times, and i assure u none of there lower links look like that, not johns, marks, or caseys...have u seen them in person?? they have a bend similar to that, but not to that extreme, not saying that it wont work just sayn it looks pretty wild thats all

I think by calling them hoaky, he didn't mean any offense. I just think he meant they were unusual-looking. WMS links are a bit different, but same principle. I wasn't out to duplicate exactly anyone anyway. They will work and I didn't take offense at the comment. Should I have?

I don't see why anyone would complain about how it looks ... WhoTF cares? I built it to wheel, not look good. I've grown to like the way it looks anyway.

I think that there is some misconception about how high it is though. There are several pics in that albumn that you see when you click on that link above. The one that loads when you click on the link is just the first one, which happens to be the one where I had it lifted up with the jack to work on it. The second pic in that serious is sitting height. It's actually quite low compared to many other trucks that plan on running 44" tires. The floor-board sits about even with my brother's Toyota that is running 35" tires, if that gives you any idea. The only lift on it is 44044's in the front and SOA, which MANY MANY people on this board run. So it's no higher than all of them.

And, no rkcrawl, there will be no problem distinguishing. But I won't have it there until next year, unfortunately, so until then, you'll just have to find the guy in the yellow vest with a camera pasted to his face. :)
