Hi
Has any one out there flipped the rear springs on a sprung over FJ 40? Does the extra wheel base make much of a difference ? Thanks
Chris

You might want to do a seach on this it has been gone over many times.
I have done the mod both front and rear, and I love it.

Sure you get 3.5" more wheelbase...do th front and you get 3.5" more....
97" with simple mod like this is definitly worth it IMHO.
Like Eric said, so a search and read up!

check into putting longer springs, 55s or wagoneers. instead of just a flip. :D

You can also flip the back spring hanger and get 102".

you got some weird maths dude
im at 99 or something, and ive got my rear shackle at the very back of the frame on 45 degree angle, and its as far ack as you can go without extending the frame and my front mounts start at the very front, and im not at 102" :(
on steep climbs, you will thank yourself for flipping the rear springs, a extended suzuki tried to do a set of steps here a few weeks ago, (same length as a factory FJ40, maybe an inch or two longer) i drove up and he never made it
the pics are all on pirate too
so yeah, it makes enough difference to be worthwhile
also, allows you not to have to cut the front of the rear archway

Yes, but it will point your pinion down. You might want to keep that in mind.

If you flip the rear spring hanger it will not change your wheelbase at all. All it will do is change your shackle angle. I have my springs flipped and front mounts moved up alittle and I am at 99".
Yeah, you need to move the fixed spring mounts in order to gain more wheelbase.

i flipped both of mine and just rewelded my rear perches. i think its at around 100 inch wheel base now.. just means you gotta whack the rear quarters for tire clearance.

I have just done the same thing using FJ60 rear springs, I had to fab new stationary mounts and used jonny joints for the frame shackle mount. Wheel base is now 100". You can see it at dough-boy.com (http://) and click on Tonys FJ 40.
