I was wondering if anyone else is having problems crushing their shocks? I have skyjacker 2 1/2" softride susp lift w/ 3" body lift and tera flex revolvers front and back an amc model 20 and dana 30 narrow trac axles, I also have 33X12.50X15 SSR, but the tires aren't making contact w/the shocks just seems like the knuckles are thinking it might be the tera flex shackles giving too much movement to the springs I don't know any ideas let me know http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b2d635b3127cce9fca38e5988d0000001410

You have two options:

1. Bump stop extensions

2. Shorter shocks

Not too tough to figure out.

It looks like the brake caliper or caliper bracket is making contact with the shocks on hard turns. You could move the lower shock mount on the axles in some or re-adjust the stop on the knuckle.

thanks but my shocks are not getting crushed vertically, they are getting crushed by the steering knuckles and don't understand why these are the stock mounts and my tires aren't rubbing them just when I get in extreme angles the get hit by the knuckles I thought it might be the extrta flex the revolver shackles give

DUH! You just answered your own question.

two solutions:

Harder: Relocate shock mounts

Easier: Adjust steering stops

Run shocks upside-down,
move lower mount to the top of the axle and make a taller tower.

OH! :emb4: yeah--I guess I should've looked at the picture closer. Kinda fuzzy...

Yeah. Just make sure the shocks you use are OK to run upside down. Some are, some aren't due to the valves needing gravity to work correctly.

running them upside down won't fix the problem, as the shock only makes contact under compression and the shock is closed at that time. What needs to be done is relocate the shocks or limit up travel. I had the same problem with mine, and I relocated the shocks.

I don't think it is uptravel or turning related, look at you front axle while articulated, I'd be that those revolvers are allowing the axle to actually shift to one side or the other under extreme articulation, plus your SUA setup with arched springs causes the axle to move fore and aft quite a bit, so if one side is drooped out and the other is way stuffed, the axle is probably sticking way out on the drooped side and the stuffed side is pushed in and forward or backward depend on shackle reversal or not. Just a though, as my shocks look a lot like yours and they don't touch a thing on level ground, but my calipers hit like mad when I git giggy wid it.

thanks for the input guys I think my best option is to relocate my shock mounts. I met this guy in TX a couple of weeks ago and he had this set up w/the tie plate and u-bolts swung opside down and put on top of the axle I could probably do that too and just get shorter shocks

thanx :D

I'm with 4Banger. Seems to me that the 'Volvers are allowing latteral axle movement which is pinching and binding the shock housing when flexed. Only thing I would guess would be to flex it out and crawl under it and take a look. If thats it, swap out the 'Volvers for something else and do the same thing... process of elimination if you will. You could run boomerang shackles in the front and keep the rear 'Volvers.

Edit: The paint on the shock housing has been rubbed and scratched off. Look to see if any other parts under there have the paint rubbed off on them, or if they have any indication of contact... Actuall, I'm guessing you've already looked for that huh. :smokin: Thought I'd mention that anyways...

thanx for the input 4- bangler and js-economos I have never heard of boomerang shackles do you have a link to them or a shop that sells them??

I appreciate it

Sure thing bro. M.O.R.E sells some nice greasable shackles.

Here, add one of these and call me in the morning... (http://www.mountainoffroad.com/catalog/ShockMounts/shockhoop.htm) :flipoff2:

I used to have the same problem, and if you are not running a antisway bar what you can do is switch the shock towers side to side then the shock will be in front of the axle and should be out of the way.

I had a similar problem with my CJ. When one spring was compressed and the tire turned to one side, the brake caliper would seriously hit the shock.
As mentioned above, extended bump stops and relocating the shock mounts did the trick for me.
