: Cheap alternative on CrMo heims / rod ends!!!
DrVic723 12-08-2008, 09:02 PM http://www.ballisticfabrication.com/Rod-Ends-_c_82-1-0.html
We have been testing out Midwwest Control's new MX series rod ends for about 4 months now, and have come to the conclusion that while not quite as robust as a genuine QA1 joint, they offer a very reliable, economical and dependable alternative. With load ratings approximately 5-10% less that QA1 XM series, they still out perform the QA1 EXM steel series by a 20% margin, at a lower cost.
If you're not convinced, keep one on board as a spare, and when the time comes (hopefully not) you'll know first hand.

DESracing 12-10-2008, 04:35 PM Is the appearance the same between both rod ends, as in the amount of material that surrounds the ball?
89_trailboss 12-10-2008, 05:31 PM finally!
azhayseed 12-10-2008, 05:36 PM Jeff,
I've been doing some research on these very rod ends.
The QA1's are rated at a static load test (Pull) and the midwest ones are rated at a radial load test (Bending). I'm not sure but I think they may be every bit as strong as the QA1's.
I'll have to see how they work cuz I'm getting ready to start the 4 link on my Jeep!
89_trailboss 12-10-2008, 05:55 PM 7/8 bore 3/4 shank; only in right hand thread?
DrVic723 12-10-2008, 07:28 PM 7/8 bore 3/4 shank; only in right hand thread?
We have MWC working on filling in all of the blanks for us, they expect most odds end ends to be tied up by March. Thanks - Jeff
DrVic723 12-10-2008, 07:29 PM Is the appearance the same between both rod ends, as in the amount of material that surrounds the ball?
Identical, except the finish on the MWC unit is better :)
DrVic723 12-10-2008, 07:33 PM We are buying by the hundreds at a time, once MWC can get back up to speed with us, you can expect us to be the ones to go to for dependable, on hand shipments.
DrVik723 I just checked out the video in your sig. Very nice. You guys should consider making the commericial a little longer and include more fab just for us fab crazy folks
DrVic723 12-10-2008, 09:15 PM We're almost done with a 2:30 commercial that has averything from machining steel, to routing our axle packaging box gussets from .5" MDF wood on our CNC router table :p

rocktoy4me 12-11-2008, 06:42 PM Are the MXM-12 3/4 shaft with a 5/8 bore? Or are they a 3/4 by 3/4 rod end?
Are they in stock?
Thanks Seth
DrVic723 12-11-2008, 06:46 PM They are 3/4 x 3/4. We have shipments coming every two days, so that's worst case scenario. Today we sold out completely of 6 sizes, but luckily we ordered alot for tomorrows shipment. We'll see more on Monady as well.
All sizes listed are what available through MWC. The 3/4-5/8" is available through QA1 with a true 5/8" ball (unlike MWC that just uses a 3/4" ball with a smaller bore).
toyjoeta 12-11-2008, 08:37 PM Three part question, 1: are you going to cary the MWC 1"x1" rod ends? 2: If so are you going to make threaded adapters to match the 1-12 threads? 3: if not do you think the MWC 7/8" x 3/4" are comparable in strength to the QA1's?
Thanks
Joe
DrVic723 12-12-2008, 06:22 AM They are working on the 1-14" thread for us right now, so I don't plan on switching over all of our tube adapters at this point.
As far as strength, they are not comparable. The QA1 joint is a higher quality joint that will last longer, buy not by leaps and bounds.
toyjoeta 12-13-2008, 12:47 PM Thanks for the info.
jeepmauler 12-17-2008, 06:11 PM do you have the XM-12/14 7/8" shank with 3/4" ball ,cromo's in stock? 4 right hand and 4 left with jam nuts.
If not, do you have the same in the QA-1?
shipped to 98037
DrVic723 12-17-2008, 08:55 PM For sure the QA1 is on stock, we're running low on the MWC joints... and after todays sales I'm not 100% sure. We'll receive another very large shipment on Friday of both brands.
Thanks - Jeff
maxyedor 12-17-2008, 09:14 PM Any idea of the long term durability? $9 for a 3/4" chromo heim is crazy cheap.
jeepmauler 12-17-2008, 09:30 PM Can I get a quote on the QA-1's shipped to 98037?
DrVic723 12-17-2008, 11:06 PM PM sent, thanks
DrVic723 12-17-2008, 11:09 PM Any idea of the long term durability? $9 for a 3/4" chromo heim is crazy cheap.
How long term? We have had these on various projects and customers cars for over a year, and have not heard a reported failure... but we have sold WAY more QA1 joints in the past and don't really hear of failures there either. Pretty difficult to judge long term durability at this point.
There is no doubt in my mind that the QA1 joint is a better joint, but how much better? I'm not really sure.
Jeff
DrVic723 12-20-2008, 11:47 AM Thanks for the orders, looks like the stockings will be full this christmas!
RampageFSJ 12-23-2008, 06:36 PM I'd like to place an order, but for some reason the site isn't working for me right now. I don't know if it's just me, but I thought I'd bring it to your attention.
DrVic723 12-23-2008, 06:48 PM We just finished upgrading about 5 minutes ago. Check again!
RampageFSJ 12-23-2008, 07:09 PM Now that's some good timing.

Jeff
Hansi 01-12-2009, 07:24 AM oooh so tempting...
I don't guess you have any metric stuff, do ya?
DrVic723 01-12-2009, 07:34 AM Like what?
Hansi 01-12-2009, 07:57 AM like... rod ends with 14 mm bore or tube adapters with metric diameters...
Rcworld89 01-14-2009, 04:27 PM do you have the midwest in 7/8 bore 7/8 thread
DrVic723 01-14-2009, 06:17 PM We can order QA1 rod ends in metric, and we can make any tube adapter you need. Just let us know and we can send over a quote.
MWC does not make a 7/8" - 7/8" rod end in the MXM series.
Thanks - Jeff
Rcworld89 01-15-2009, 10:57 AM what kind of deal can I get on QA1 7/8 bore 7/8shrank heim joints
DrVic723 01-15-2009, 03:03 PM $28.99 - Pirate discount, use coupon code code 'pirate' while checking out or mention the discount to the sales person on the phone. Thanks - Jeff
Rcworld89 01-16-2009, 08:27 AM I got a question if you use the midwest 7/8 thread and 3/4 bore with standard 3/4 spacers will it give you about the same degree of movement as using the QA1 7/8 thread 7/8 bore with 7/8 to 3/4 high misaligners.
DrVic723 01-16-2009, 08:42 AM 11 deg vs 36 deg...
Rcworld89 01-23-2009, 07:24 AM can you get the midwest heim that are 7/8 thread and 3/4 bore in right and left hand thread
DrVic723 01-23-2009, 07:44 AM Just RH. Thanks - Jeff
Rcworld89 01-27-2009, 10:49 AM does midwest make them that are left hand thread
toyjoeta 01-28-2009, 10:05 PM 11 deg vs 36 deg...
So you get 36* with the MWC 7/8 x 3/4? If so using what size bolt, 9/16?
DrVic723 01-29-2009, 06:25 AM Yes, that's about right. If you use a 5/8" bolt it goes to just over 30*. Thanks - Jeff
toyjoeta 01-29-2009, 02:17 PM Thanks for the info!
