: Need wheel backspace
MattS 08-15-2002, 07:58 AM I searched and came up empty. I'm putting a 3 inch lift and 33's on a buddies TJ next week and need to order the tires and wheels today. What is the recommended backspace for 3 inch lift and 33x12.5's?
Thanks!!
StudNuts 08-15-2002, 08:13 AM For 12.50's, something in between a 4~4.5" backspaced wheel will be suffice.

I COULD have, but I wanted the CORRECT answer. You and your little dog Mo can :flipoff2:
Welby 08-15-2002, 09:17 AM Baaaaaaahahahaa, go to JU
I have 4.75" backspacing on mine, and the 33's would rub at full lock, but it tucked them in nicely. Have smallish 35's on them now and they rub a bit more (duh). Nothing severe though.
Contemplating buying 36" TSL's today, and will be getting new rims with 4" B.S. 36 is just too much for the wheels I have...
If he sticks with 33's go with the 4.75"
MattS 08-15-2002, 09:20 AM Thanks to the other people who replied with TECH replies. For the rest of you. :flipoff2:

I have Chris to help me now beotch!
yjfish 08-15-2002, 08:12 PM Ive been running 35x1250 on my yj with a 15x8 3.75 back space rim. I had to let my steer stops out a bit cause the tires were catching on the leaf springs(rear of axle). I have lost some steering because of this - obviously.
I have been looking at some diff rims, 15x8 but 2, 3, 4, 0r 4.5 back space is only offered on the rim im looking at.
Of course a 4 bs will move my wheels in .25" on each side - how much more steering will i lose, i dont know.
If i use a 3 bs my wheels will be move out .75 each side - will i gain some steering, I think I should. Plus 1.5" more track width should give a little more stability, or will it look pimp'n???
Ny other ideas???
moveaside 08-15-2002, 08:31 PM 3-4" is what you want on a TJ with that tire size ask SteveN if he's got a sweet deal on wheel spacers:rolleyes: if you can't score wheels for it with enough backspace. Remember you'll go bigger later.

At 4" you'll probably rub at full cock of the steering wheel but not affect it too much at 5" you should clear the arms anything less and it'll be a pain in the ass. Remember you'll go bigger later.
I guess I really dont understand this. Why go with 4.5" bs then add spacers, why not just get a rim with 4 or 3 bs and skip the spacers.
Dan-H 08-15-2002, 08:43 PM 15x8, 4" bs work fine with 33s and 35s.
now either go back to chit chat or bring some eye candy :grinpimp:

Keith Strong 08-16-2002, 08:29 AM Sounds to me more like you dont really understand backspacing  More backspacing means less width :flipoff2:
