: dual dana 20's (cold duck)

ok, so ive been pricing low ratio geer sets for the 20, (about $800) and pricing atlas (1200 and change thru hicks)
then last night i remembered the cold duck setup ($1100) and thought to my self this might be the way to go... it would get me a 6.05:1 in double low, but give me more flexability in gear choices.. esp if down the road i did drop in a 4:1 kit (10.48 in double low)
now.. the problem... i have a scout (pass drop) not a ford (driver drop) does any one know if this will still work? does any one know of another kit out there?

This is the response i got from wild horses 4x4:
"Brian,
You can put anything in any vechile, just knowing what to use is the answer.
I could not tell you how that would work, or how to make it work. (sorry)

Thanks,
Johnny.

No, Scout and Jeep Dana 20's have a different bolt pattern and a different input configuration than Bronco D20's.

I would not want a Dana 20 as the 2nd case in any kind of doubled setup behind a V8.

Hey DAN, run a quick search. There have been a lot of threads on the topic of dual case, cold ducks, Tera kits, Heep 300's etc.

The answer was a result of an open ended question. Yes you could run the CD, but start looking for drivers side diff 44/60

Last I heard the Mr. Scout creeper box goes for $1800 and 32 spline rear outputs go for $400. Makes the Atlas II sound better, doesn't it.

That creaper box would be great but the  price is just to much when you consider a divorced 205 can be found for little to nothing, add some scrap steel, a carrier bearing with junkyard driveshafts, hack or clock the D20, fab a linkage, and you have your duals...crazy to spend that much on two dana 20's mated together...

Course if you don't like to do your own work or money is no object the creaper box might be cool for you.....but if money wasn't the problem I'd have a built-to-be-a-torque-monster fuel injected 460/C6/203/205 doubler at the end of the magic drivetrain...feeding narrowed and turned, OX or electric locker, 35 spline HP D60's front and rear with 4.56's and 38" + TSL/SX's....

Oops...got off topic....gotta stop drooling on the keyboard...

:flipoff2:

A good weekend to all......

Why in the hell would you want to put a HP in the rear.... especially if you were building a "built to be a torque monster" drivetrain? Hmmmm.... let's put a reverse cut set of gears in the rear end so they can drive against the coast side of the teeth....yeah, yeah, that's it...

I have some of Dooley Pula's setup as you describe but I need to scan them.....and find them after I unpack from the move to the new house....

He cut the D20 from the side of the shift rail to the bottom of the t/c pan diagonally and left about 3 inches or so of t/c oil pan..then he welded a plate over the cut portion. He ran the linkage to the NP205 through the hole for the outside shift rail and a driveshaft on a carrier bearing to the stock front driveshaft location.... hope that helps some...:flipoff2:

Call that number again and talk to Gary or Ryan in the back..skip the sales guys up front.. Im not sure if gary or ryan know about the differences between the scout 20 and bronco 20's, but its worth a shot.

The Mr. scout box isnt 2 stacked 20's. Its just a bunch of 20 parts inside a custom 1/2 inch thick case. 1800 is for the 3.17 ratio. its 2100 for the 4.6 or whatever. I had the sales flyer around but I think my dog ate it. I like the 203/205 doubler idea. It gives the front drive shaft less angle and still leaves the rear end in good shape. I'd love to cut up a 20 for fun though.

Do you have a digital camera? You can just take a closeup pic too.

I have a couple of cases to burn through, but it was be great if I could use your pics as a baseline.

Anyone ever run a D20 behind a D18? Grind the gears on the D18 so the output spins freely. Kinda acts as a carrier bearing. I had an adapter to divorce mount the D20 but an NP205 could work.
