ok, so ive been pricing low ratio geer sets for the 20, (about $800) and pricing atlas (1200 and change thru hicks)
then last night i remembered the cold duck setup ($1100) and thought to my self this might be the way to go... it would get me a 6.05:1 in double low, but give me more flexability in gear choices.. esp if down the road i did drop in a 4:1 kit (10.48 in double low)
now.. the problem... i have a scout (pass drop) not a ford (driver drop) does any one know if this will still work? does any one know of another kit out there?

This is the response i got from wild horses 4x4:
"Brian,
You can put anything in any vechile, just knowing what to use is the answer.
I could not tell you how that would work, or how to make it work. (sorry)

Thanks,
Johnny.

first of all, where can you get an atlas for 1200???? i'll take 2 at that price. Second, i don't know for sure but i don't believe the cold duck will work with the scout 20. Third i don't even think it's a good idea for a ford 20 because it still leaves you with the weak output shaft and the potentially weak input. What tranny are you using? if you can get an atlas for 1200 do it and don't look back. if that was a type and you meant 2200 but don't want to spend that much, i'm sure there are other options other than keeping the d20.

I worked at wild horses for 5yrs. I worked very close with the cold duck. The only 20 case that will work is the 20 out of the Bronco and it will only mate well with the bronco 20. It is a very good unit. Now good and bad. It will make your drive tran about 6'' longer so in turn shorter driveline. Your weak link is still the same which is the rear out put shaft. But now they sale a beef rear out put shaft that will take care of that. The nice thing about the cold duck is your options are endless when it comes to the gears u want to run. If you have any more Q's call me at 1-209-944-9966 Ask for Jon.

Anyone have some pictures of the Cold Duck adapter. I would like to see what it looks like to see if I could make my own.

Is there any advantages to the 'Cold duck' over using an NP203+D20?? or vice versa??

ya, no one makes a 203 -> D20 addapter..... that I know of. You have a different source??

Might as well just got 203/205 then.... and the 203 weighs a TON compaired to a D20....

'Cold Duck' is 2 Dana 20's coupled together. 2.46 * 2.46 = 6.05 low range
the 203 weighs a TON compaired to a D20
Dana 20 weighs in at 82lbs
NP203 weighs in at 195lbs, but,the gear box weighs 80 lbs even(lighter than a D20).
not hear say, I weighed my junk.
no one makes a 203 -> D20 addapter
Why not make it your self. Thats what I'm plannin on doin'. But I don't know about the strength of the D20. I like that its 2 1/2" shorter, and 59lbs lighter than the NP205, but the output shaft..........???
Haven't contemplated the 'Cold Duck' yet cause I havent heard of anyone beatin' on one yet. How do they hold up?? I'm guessing the same as a single D20?

how are the dana 20 coupled together? Can you only do this with the bronco dana 20s or can it be done with the jeep ones as well?

Rogue Bronco
are you going to make your own adp from a 203 range box to a dana 20? I would like to see that when you are done with it

I think it only works with the EB Dana20's. Not sure how its coupled together.
I'm plannin on makin my own adapters + getting machining done(shouldn't be hard).
was contemplating NP203>NP203>D20 but I think all the joints will create too many week points. It works great for the driveline length I'm lookin for, but I think I might settle for NP203>big useless spacer>NP205. For strength purposes.
(I like to beat my junk):D
I run an NP205 now, and swappin for a D20 isn't exactly 'upgrading'.

Do you know a place that has the parts to do the Cold Duck or just have talked to people about it.

Wildhorses (http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/cold_duck.asp) does the 'Cold Duck' . I know 1 guy that has it, but haven't seen him use it yet. Haven't talked to many people about it yet, interested in the strength issues for it tho. Wildhorses also has an improved rear output for the EB Dana20, not sure if it fits others.
