: YJ rewire with propane
junk95yj 12-12-2008, 06:48 AM I am planning on buying a 4.0 propane kit from gotpropane.com. I will be rewiring my entire jeep at the same time because the previous owner thought he was an electrian. So my question is what aftermarket harness have you guys used and how did it turn out? I want to have one fuse block and due away with the underhood block to make it as minimal as possible. The only thing that I should need are lights, electric fan, ignition, wipers, and gauges. I think 12 circuit harness should be plenty for my needs. Am I missing anything?
junk95yj 12-13-2008, 11:17 AM Will there be anything else needed to run the motor with an HEI dist. other than an ignition wire? Im sure that these are stupid questions but I am an electrical newbie. I am just getting tired of troubleshooting my current hacked up harness.
junk95yj 12-14-2008, 07:27 PM Got the ignition and starter diagram figured out. What harnesses have you guys used and how did they turn out? I found this guy on ebay www.4wheelinjunky.com Anybody used one of their harnesses?
papabear 12-15-2008, 04:40 PM I kept part of my factory harness. Not the best idea but it works. As far as engine wiring, the hei distributor has one wire and the starter has two. I am running a one wire gm alternator, so there are four wires and a ground on my engine.
junk95yj 12-15-2008, 04:45 PM Do you have the part # on the alternator? Did you need to make the bracket for it or did the stock bracket work? I think that I would be better off just starting fresh with the harness. Im sure that I will be money and time ahead when it was said and done.
junk95yj 02-06-2009, 02:03 PM I pulled the entire dash today. Most of the connectors are unplugged or burned beyond repair. It looks like the new harness will have to come before I expected so back to the top for more info.

I have used his harness, it was the sandrail/universal (T3 I think) harness for $85, it was great. You get alot of wire and loop so you can put the fuse box anywhere in the tub and it's good wire. He is very helpful as well, and instructions are easy to follow.
junk95yj 02-07-2009, 04:30 PM I think thats the harness that I am going to go with. I will order it tomorrow. Did you use the factory gauges and switchs? I am debating whether I want to replace everything with a flat dash ,aftermarket gauges and switchs or keep the factory stuff.

I did all aftermarket guages and ingition switches, longacre stuff.
junk95yj 02-20-2009, 07:11 AM Im gather the parts that I need now. I just need to order the propane kit and trans controller for the AW4. Which alternator are you guys with propane powered 4.0s using? Did you have to make a bracket?
CJim7 02-20-2009, 07:30 AM You shouldnt need a special alternator
Just curious, why ditch EFI for Propane? I understand 'pane for a carbed motor to get the EFI effect, but what is your reasoning?
junk95yj 02-20-2009, 08:46 AM Im getting tired of troubleshooting the wiring harness problems that Im having. I just feel like it would be easier to take it out all together. Plus, I dont drive it on the street much so that isnt a concern either.
