ok I have a ratty 79 Blazer that I want to make a little more presentable, but most of my bodywork techniques involve a sawzall and a bunch of empty cans of Pabst. The fiberglass top was originally white, but has been painted black. Whats the best way to get the paint stripped off? Im thinking suck it up and just sand it, then re-apply the factory textured white? Im apprehensive about the possibilities of using some kind of chemical stripper on fiberglass, but are my fears unfounded? Is there a good fiberglass safe chemical stripper?

I know this is a less than hardcore question. Sorry about that... Ill make it up to everyone by posting some worthwile shit later, and Ill put another "Save Tellico" sticker on something for good measure.

Thanks

Probably posted in the wrong forum, but I'll give an opinion anyway.
Try a marine supply store--there are products intended to strip fiberglass without dissolving the gelcoat.
My experience with these products on fiberglass (OLD experience!) is that you can get most of the paint off with the stripper, but ultimately, scraping and sanding will be needed.

Id say seal it and paint white over it.... a lot less work IMO

Thanks for your replies. I was thinking about painting over the black paint that's already there, but its actually coming off by itself in a lot of places, so I figured I would just end up with a dalmatian roof that way.

i used a pressure washer and alot of the shit came off real clean. if i were a smart guy ida painted it then sealed it, but beings im a hick, i cut it up real small and called it good. the pressure washer did awesome tho.
