: Any interest in something like this?
wngrog 08-15-2002, 12:49 PM I have asked Rugburn to look into making me a 1/4 windshield out of ABS material and his "Speed Glass" for my FJ-40 when I have my windshiled off.
The piece would serve 2 purposes.
1) It would make the wind go up and over you when you are driving without the windshield to and from the trail
2) It would fill the egly void left when you remove your widshield frame and have a stock dash like I have
Right now, Rugburn is uncertain of the price, but the more the more interest the better.
Post up and tell me what you think.
GloNDark 08-15-2002, 12:53 PM cool, sign me up!!!:D
wngrog 08-15-2002, 12:55 PM See the "Void" I am talking about between the windshield bracket and the dash? This puppy would go in stock windshield hinges and secure like a stock frame....
rugburn 08-15-2002, 12:57 PM The only void I see is the guy behind the wheel!:flipoff2:

I was wondering why you wanted the crushed fiberglass windshield frame that BJ had ;)
I would be interested....

DCruiser138 08-15-2002, 01:34 PM i dont see the purpose. i understand wanting some wind screen effect w/o the windshield, but couldnt you just bolt the slab of plastic to the cage or sumthin. i mean, its still going to be sumthin to break in yur rolls. as far as filling the void.....its not really that "ugly" seems like a waste of $$$ just to look stock when you take the window off. ya know?....:D

I will admit that the main reason is looks on this deal. I think it will be cool

don't we all??
Question, would such a windscreen meet any DOT requirements?? I doubt it...
Considering my windsheild takes me all of 5 minutes to remove now, I wouldn't be interested in something like that. Just drill out your hinge pins and replace with a couple 5/16" bolts and viola...

There are no DOT windshield requirements in Texas!
woody 08-15-2002, 02:26 PM unfortunately, Wisconsin does....tho unsure if a fullframe is required or what the "details" are on it...
BJ On Roids 08-15-2002, 03:28 PM AH HA!!!
yeah it would of been too much effort to send that worthless POS windscreen frame over there!
ummmm..........
what happens when you tip?
that stuff plastic?
does it pop out?
or crack open?
does it flap at the top, when hauling down fire trails and stuff?
rustyb 08-15-2002, 03:35 PM It must really suck when you realize that you have bought or tried every aftermarket gizmo out there for cruisers and now have to start inventing stuff to buy! :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Mr McGee 08-15-2002, 04:19 PM hey sign me up--if they are pretty cheap i will go for it (i have a pretty RUSTY frame that i dont feel like fixing)

Hey how is the house?
BTW HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!
coyote 08-15-2002, 09:49 PM I can see something like this having a market in cruiser/buggy land....let me know what his price model comes out like....
rugburn 08-20-2002, 05:51 AM I hope I don't get spanked for this but around $135.00 USD shipped.
Paintable ABS with polycarb insert windshield.
Thanks Nolen!

Macgyver 08-20-2002, 06:53 AM why not just take an old frame(most are jacked at the top), hack it off at the appropriate length, constructively cover the raw edges and you have something that fits perfectly and you can use one gasket 2 times if you do it right?
woody 08-20-2002, 07:15 AM $135 is not bad at all....especially including the polycarb glass. I do like the look!
One reason for not just hacking off a standard frame is in my part of the world, they rust out BADLY in that area. The top half is often all that's any good.
Plus there is the weight issue. Plus, the metal-talent to finish off the cut-point to not look stupid. Plus, you then have the option to run a 1/2 in the summer with no top and switch back to the full in winter for a top.
For as many quality-done 1/2 doors made from full doors out there, there are 5 times as many done with a sawzall and no talent whatsoever. Same would happen with windshields.
Mr McGee 08-20-2002, 09:38 AM i agree, 135 is NOT bad.
i will talk to my dad (as we are in the process of looking for a new windshield frame cuz our bottom is GONE) and i think he will go for it if we cant find a regular frame.

bigdude 08-20-2002, 10:15 AM Where might someone find the windshield requirements for their home state, say FL for example:D

Go to your local inspection station or the DMV website for Florida.
woody 08-20-2002, 12:53 PM Yeppers...a search for Florida+dmv outta get you somewheres on Google. And once you find the millions of pages created for vehicle issues, be prepared to combine the information for a few different ones and from different portions of the document to find the real truth. I know Wisc has a couple different sections on vehicle requirements, and in some cases they disagree.
It may also be worth a phone call to your area Hiway Patrol office (local PD don't deal much with vehicle legality, the HP's are up on that junk)

Na that is a cheep price for something complete ready for paint. It does have that 30's hot rod coupe look, however it is not for me. On another note I have always wanted to chop a factory hard top and window down about 3", but keep the rig lifted as normal! Feeeeaky!
Advent Horizon 08-20-2002, 06:18 PM Talk to Nolen about how to make the roof shorter, he seems to be pretty good at squishing it down!

funnily enough ive considered that for a while
chop 3" off the windscreen and lower the cage a little
ive seen a show cheep with that done and it looked okay....would be cool
need to lower my seats then :(
nuclearlemon 08-21-2002, 06:23 PM state patrol can tell you the laws on windshields. woody, if wisconsin follows illinois at all, the law only says a windshield is required...does not say it can't be laying flat on your hood (as mine was the day i got into the argument that i won concerning this law with a local cop). if it is not functional, then adequate eye protection must be worn (i used the glasses that i wore when i rode my motorcycle).
as for the chopping a cruiser, can't picture it...hmmmmm...might look kinda good with the blown chevy i'm pondering for the 45.
72rockcruiser 08-21-2002, 08:30 PM I would run that all summer, i dig it! I learned in Inspection school here in NC, (used to be a licenced inspector) you dont even gotta have a w/s to pass here. Anyway, my cruiser only hits the road on the way to the trail, so I dont even wear a sticker anymore.(outta site, outta mind!)
