: Moving to Savannah GA May 09, Got trails??
jpfrk2001 12-12-2008, 01:14 PM Well, I just found out that the Army is moving my to Savannah GA early next year. I have just spent about 2 years here in Southern California playing on at the Hammers. So my rig is built mostly for the hardcore rockcrawling and desert running. But I am in the process of building my rig multi purpose.
So my question is, is there any one in the area that can show me around when I get there? Are there any trails close by? I hear about Tellico, and superlift OHV park. Any other parks? How close is Tellico to Savannah GA? Details of my rigs buildup is in my Sig below.
biggin 12-12-2008, 02:21 PM your probably looking at around 4.5 hours from Tellico. You are going to be disappointed in the offroading in Savannah:(
kirbyiv 12-12-2008, 02:24 PM river rock, gulches, tellico, morris mtn, gray rock-those are your closest places.
go a little further and hit windrock and harlan
jpfrk2001 12-12-2008, 03:42 PM Well Im still bringing the heep and all my tools. If anything, my junk will be placed in the garage and continue to wrench and improve it.
biggin 12-12-2008, 04:41 PM There is always that Geogia red clay mud:homer:
s10er8 12-13-2008, 06:50 PM Tellico is at least 6 hours from Savannah. River Rock is maybe 2 hours. Gulches is about 2.5hrs or so
Go to River Rock and give it hell. it will satisfy your craving for a while
jpfrk2001 12-13-2008, 07:46 PM So basically, nothing local. That really sucks:( And I really Hate mud! Im not afraid of it, I just hate it.
s10er8 12-13-2008, 08:33 PM Nope, Savannah and everything around it is nearly perfectly flat and sandy/silty/muddy
Check mileage and drive time to River rock. it's in Milledgeville, GA and may not even be 2 hours from there
There are PLENTY of Jeeps in Savannah though, and clubs
Georgia boy '88 12-14-2008, 08:23 AM River Rock is about 3 hours from Savannah, but it's the closest place.

I'm sorry.
Not much crawling here but some good folks and River Rock as mentioned is only a couple hours. There are a few concrete piles around here to play on.

chris fresh 12-21-2008, 11:24 AM i'm in savannah, check my build and check me out when you get in town.i'm planning on tellico and maybe some tenn trips for weekend get aways from savannah
BEN83CJ7 01-13-2009, 07:45 PM Welcome to Savannah a little early. There are plenty of folks here and a lot more Jeeps than I thought might be here when I moved down from Colorado. I am a little stalled on my build right now because of some training but hoping to be back into it around april. The wheeling locally isnt great but the trip to river rock isnt too bad. If your out here at Hunter Army Airfield just look for the house with way too many Jeeps in the drive and I would be it will be mine.
Good luck with the move.
Ben
jpfrk2001 01-14-2009, 04:54 PM Hey Ben,
Thanks! And my assignment is actually HAA(Im a Blackhawk guy currently in the TI shop). I got to start thinking about housing as well!
Chris, I will be looking you up as well,
Martin
louie4 02-02-2009, 03:30 PM Savannah is pretty cool but not much for wheelin. The town is awesome though, especially for St. Patty's day. Anyway, River Rock is fun but the trails vary every time I go because the owner gets his back hoe and changes the trails around, which sucks sometimes. My first time I could ride around most all the trails, the next time I went I couldn't do much because a lot of the trails were dug out too much and only the 35" and over were doing that stuff. But overall its fun and you'll have to wait for an open weekend and get ready to spend $40 bucks. But they have a weld shop there and showers and bathrooms.
Tellico is really fun too but I can assure you that it will take more than 4 hrs from Savannah. It takes me 4 hours from Athens, mainly because of the mountains. I would say you can get there in 8. Anyway, welcome to Georgia.
82crawler 02-02-2009, 04:07 PM check out durhamtown plantation its an atv park but they just added truck trails i havent checked them out yet but the you tube videos look cool its near athens but closer than tellico. morris mtn is also awsome
jpfrk2001 05-01-2009, 07:39 PM The only reason Im bringing this back up, is I will be in Savannah This Tuesday. I already have some good line ups on housing in the Pooler GA area. I hope to be in a house by Friday next week before I start inproccesing. I am loaded down with some household items, all my basic tools, and rig as well. Matrix is getting shipped. Im looking forward to meeting you all.

I live near Pooler. You're going to be very disappointed! There is nothing but mud locally. There are very few rigs in town. The best place is River Rock. Anywhere else you are looking at a 5+ hour drive. Kevin
jpfrk2001 05-06-2009, 03:22 PM Today we got a house in Pooler GA. Its a quick drive to HAA which is what I want. But its a damn long drive to Ft. Stewart if needed. And next week, I spend at least a week doing a daily 120mile commute inprocessing:mad3: But at least coming this Saturday is Move in day to the house. So we're not spending a long time in a hotel wasting money.
