It’s time for a new rear drive shaft and since experience is the best teacher I am hoping some of you might pass on some of your hard-earned knowledge.

The Jeep is a 60 with an offset d44, SUA with T31” tires, which I hope to upgrade to 33s or 35s soon. It also has a 2-½ rancho lift with Tera’s revolver shackles front and rear. Prior to this I had a 2-inch shackle lift as well. The driveline I have been running has a short slip joint, with no problems. However I have only used it once with the new revolver shackles.

My questions are:
Do I need to go to a medium or long slip joint to account for the extra shackle travel? My driveline guy is suggesting a long one.
The xfer case end still has the flange u-joint mount vs. the u-bolt type like the axle. Is there an advantage over one or the other? I have the parts to go either way.

Thanks

I would go long slip on a offset rear axle.. it would suck if you pulled the shaft apart with a lot of drop on the passenger side. As for the u bolt or flanged.. it costs a little more for the flange and i think you might lose a little angle, but its strong, as long as you make sure you keep the 4 bolts that bolt the flange on tight

Ditto. Keep the flange unless you find yourself running short of length. You can get back an inch or more (in some cases) by converting to a standard yoke. Loctite those bolts too. ;)
