: Jeep lifting on shifting
Grand_ZJ 12-13-2008, 10:23 AM When Atlas is in 4-lo and jeep shifts from drive to reverse, the jeep lifts up significantly. From reverse to drive it lifts up around 3 inches, but it really doesn't lift that high on the passenger side, the driver side is what lifts....normal?
here is a video

AgitatedPancake 12-13-2008, 11:02 AM its just the torque trying to overcome your brakes, but it cant so its twisting up the suspension. I wouldn't worry about it. Even my WJ does it (not as severely, but I'm only running 2.72 in the tcase)
Like right now if I stab it from a red light my drivers side lifts up a pretty good amount
v8jeeptj 12-13-2008, 01:46 PM my tj does it but I have a 350, when I drive and the trany shifts it torque jacks pretty bad.
mike holt 12-13-2008, 02:24 PM you can combat the lift with your coilover springs. set the dual rate stop to where at ride height it is not allowing the upper spring to compress. mainly want to concentrate on the passenger rear. my buggy use to do that until I set the stop. when I say stop im talking about the 2 locknuts (on radflo's) that stop the dual rate slider from going up any further under compression. hope that helps. good luck
sometimes its is unavoidable based on suspension geometry.
Wild Hare 12-13-2008, 02:56 PM its torque squat and lots of rigs do it. now get out of your dads rig before he gets home and kicks your ass.

:laughing::laughing:
Yup, torque squat.
jeep937 12-13-2008, 03:17 PM Nice TJ. Could this be cause of link placement?
scarnek 12-13-2008, 03:41 PM thats my question, how long are your control arms on that thing?
LumberJack5500 12-13-2008, 06:04 PM What are you running for axle gears?
I had a friend with a linked zuky that had problems with the suspension jacking under power. When he regeared his axles it helped the problem a lot.
crashhawk 12-13-2008, 06:12 PM That, my freind, is called "loading" the suspension. Look at some "foot brake" drag guys. It's your drive train fighting the brakes, engine Tq just makes your rig load on the right.
Not sure how to stop it or if I'd really call it a problem, it's just something we lived with in the 1/4 mile world.
EDIT: I shoulda read the first post before I repeated everything he said..... I'll go now.
LumberJack5500 12-13-2008, 06:37 PM I should add that tcase gears would make the jacking more severe
jpfrk2001 12-13-2008, 06:48 PM decent excuse to show a video of the rig running:flipoff2:
Its normal, deal with it. Especially if you have a soft spring rate
bigjeepinfool 12-13-2008, 06:53 PM it's the fat chick you made duck down on the passenger side:flipoff2:
Nomercy 12-13-2008, 08:20 PM Atlas, Coil overs, Stretch, Tube fenders, Long Arm, Comp cut....and doesnt know about Tq squat...interesting.
kirbyiv 12-13-2008, 08:42 PM too much antisquat in the rear end. yes, the driveshaft will make EVERY rig torque up some, but you can control the amount with your suspension geometry.
edit: every solid-axle, linked rig
kirbyiv 12-13-2008, 08:55 PM you can combat the lift with your coilover springs. set the dual rate stop to where at ride height it is not allowing the upper spring to compress. mainly want to concentrate on the passenger rear. my buggy use to do that until I set the stop. when I say stop im talking about the 2 locknuts (on radflo's) that stop the dual rate slider from going up any further under compression. hope that helps. good luck
sometimes its is unavoidable based on suspension geometry.
your last point is right. first point...well you shouldnt really set up your coilovers to ride on the "second rate" at ride height-thats not how it is meant to be set up. If you have to do that to put a bandaid on the torque problem, probably going about it wrong. It would be better to set the suspension up correctly and use the dual rates how they are intended.
