: Right hand drive Colorado

I though I might as well share some pics, even though it is an oil burning mall crawler.:D I know this isn't a hard core build, but it may be of some interest to see how this are done in a different country.

Here are some pics of my truck. I live in Thailand so it is right hand drive. I can't leave anything stock :shaking:, so I have started to mod my little diesel pick up. I was going to lift it 3" and run 33" tires, but the wife wouldn't let me. So I am going to do some performance upgrades. I just found a diesel tuner shop in Bangkok, and the owner is Dutch and speaks english. It has been hard finding performance parts in Thailand, especially since my Thai is basic.

The specs :
2007 Chevy Colorado Crew Cab 4X4 Z71 3.0 L 4 cylinder turbo diesel duramax. Fully loaded, leather, auto. I had the engine management computer reprogramed, added high flow exhaust and a cold air intake, but now I am swapping the turbo, swapping in a front mount intercooler, new stainless header, stainless down pipe, exhaust, transmission controller, manual boost controller, big brake kit, lowering it 2" and coil spring shocks. I am getting the rims powder coated silver to match the truck.

The turbo charger is a (td05h-16g) from the Subaru sti, and the Mitsubishi Evolution 3. Rated at 505-520cfm. I will be running a HKS Pro wastegate. The shop doing the install is building the header, down pipe, installing the intercooler, and all the cold piping. The engine management computer, was reprogrammed by a local Thai company. They work with Chevrolet Thailand in the rally truck races here in Asia. They will be able the tune the little duramax after eveything is done.

Once the mods are finished, the diesel shop has access to a powerlab porsche dyno, I will post up the results when I get them.

I am offshore on the rig right now, but I will be home in 10 days. We will start the install then. I will try to take lots of pictures, I think it will be quite interesting to see how good a performance shop is half way across the world.

The wife picked the wheels. She wanted to buy a Toyota, but I wouldn't have it, so I had to let her pick out what she liked for rims. Oh well thats what marriage is all about, never winning an arguement again:flipoff2:

I had the hood up to check the oil, and I was checking the water level in the battery, but good eye.

why is there water in your battery ;)

its amazing the cool shit that you cant get here because even though it gets ass loads more power and mpg, it put out to much carb monx for the weight of the vehicle.

like the ford fiesta that get 65mpg, but its diesel so we cant have it in america even thought we are all about the "green" and better mpg :shaking:

rigpig on juice

I know it is unthinkable to lower it, and run the 20", but I just will never go offroad with this truck. There are way too many snakes, lizards, and bugs here for me to even think about. I wanted four wheel drive for when it floods, as the roads can be 2 feet underwater. I decided just to make it perform better on the hi-way.

Yes the engine is made by Isuzu, it is a OHV 4 cylinder common rail 16 valve, with direct injection

Yes I know I am gay, but I think my other rig makes up for it.:grinpimp:

I want to punch your wife in the face for not "letting" you lift it, but saying its okay to lower it and for putting on those big shitty wheels. Sorry.

If Iwere you, I'd tell her that she better learn her place or get sold on the Thai black market.

Well the turbo install is finished. I got called out to work on Christmas day, so I never got to hang out at the shop and take progress pics.
Here are some of the engine bay. I had my wife pick up the truck today from Bangkok, so she took some pics and emailed them to me. I still have to take the truck into get retuned and dynoed, but the guy at shop said he was impressed on the test drive. I had them install a manual boost controller, and he said that he got her up to 38 psi. On the stock turbo, it was running about 1.3 bar, or 18.2 psi. It should be a fun little ride now.

I will hopefully be back onshore mid January, so I will have a few more updates then.

See? That's what GM needs to do for us on this side of the pond.

I'd try to get some band clamps asap. Those worm drive clamps will eventually damage that nice silicone tubing.

Thats fucking badass man :smokin: Do they have a dyno their that you can put it on?

rigpig on juice
12-29-2008, 10:17 AM
I will be putting it on the dyno when I get back. The shop owner had the turbo before I bought if from him, and his truck dynoed @ 270 hp, 490 ft/lbs. It was a 3.2 liter, so mine should be close. (3.0 liter)

I will be looking for some proper clamps, but I may have a hard time over here. Hopefully I can find some.

The big three didn't set the emissions laws, thats good ole uncle sam. So our EPA and other government agencies are what is screwing us out of the cool vehicles.

Time for some updates. I finally got to lift the truck. I am buying the wife a car, so I got the all clear. First I changed the turbo to a Holset HX 32. The truck was dynoed with 275/45R20 tires and it put out 283 hp and 411 ft/lbs of torque. I am going to change the programmer to a stand alone unit and see if we can get some more power. I also changed the front and rear brakes. In the front I am running 380mm rotors and 6 piston calipers. In the rear there is 320mm rotors and dual calipers. It was a big improvement. The roads over here can be a little unpredictable, so stopping is a good thing.
I got a 5" lift kit installed and I am running 35x12.5xR20 Toyo MT's. I then changed the bumpers and got some tube side bars installed.
Here are some new pics.

They exchange your battery every time they work on it? From the look of your pictures that truck has had 3 different batteries in it.

The torque and horsepower figures are great for that engine. Obviously our government is not inclined towards real fuel savings or we would have many more diesels available here.

I'm inclined to believe we have too many sweetheart deals with the Saudis in support of their economy to ever really be fuel efficient in this country. If the politicians would ever let us develope the oil we have in the continental US we would never have to import another drop of oil from what I have read.

The truck new cost $24,000 US dollars. With today's exchange rate it would be around $27,000.

I was the first person in Thailand to install the porsche calipers and rotors. They are a kit made by Runstop here in Thailand.

Here are some more pics of some of the trucks over here. The white Toyota regular cabs are brand new 2 wheel drives. The shop I got the lift installed at are doing a SAS and 4 wheel drive conversion. The trucks are sent up from Phuket from a dealership. The dealership then honors the full warranty.

Hey Rigpig,

Great looking 355 man, you got it built up nicely.

Found the link to this thread over on 355nation.net. I was curious, are those step bars a custom one-off you had made over there, or is there a company that builds them? At any rate, I'm incredibly interested in a set, or at least the design specs behind them!

Like the truck except for the right hand drive. I'll be dropping a 6bt 12v cummins into my 2000 dakota when the "magnum" 6 cyl gives up, which I'm hoping for any day now. The truck is my wife's and she refuses to get rid of it so might as well do something cool with it. Thanks for the inspiration.

It is a Unicorn Suspension lift and I bought the lift kit from PT 4x4 in Kanchanaburi.

I have the owners number at home, but he does not speak english. If your contacts speak Thai, I will get the number from my wife.
