I'm bored, so lets talk tuning recoil springs for performance.

Any benefit with off the shelf ammo?

Lighter springs reduce or amplify felt recoil?

Affects on overall lifespan with lighter springs and slide battering the frame?

Affects on speed of follow up shots?

Lets get into the dynamics of semi auto pistol operation, what's going to make things better, whats going to hurt in the long run.

Maybe tomorrow I'll check a couple other forums for info, but for now, lets see what the PBB has got.

Not a damn thing apparently!! :flipoff2:

I tried trimming and shimming my own springs for awhile, now I tend to rely on the kits.

An ISMI 13-pound spring with 3 coils missing is the shiznit in a Glock 34. Played with everything from 11 to 20 pounds. (Factory weight was 17)

Lighter springs will speed up follow-up shots, and lower the percieved recoil. Heavier springs would logically be the way to go. Let the spring soak up the recoil, you know? But the gun flips more and takes longer to recover.

The difference can be noticable with factory ammo, but it's night and day with light loads.

I'm on my third one for the year. They only last about 5,000 rounds. Push it much further, and the gun starts having issues.

This is the part I couldn't figure out, common sense says a lighter spring will allow the slide to move faster and hit the frame harder amplifying recoil. If in fact it does reduce percieved recoil I may give it a shot just for grins.

You've been around a lot of high round count guns, does a lower weight recoil spring in fact reduce life expectancy?

Been buying goodies under the guise of x-mas presents. Wife said send her links to what I wanted this year, when I started sending links she said "just order the stuff and save me the bother, I don't know what half this crap is."

Gawd I love her.:D

Reducing life expectancy? Probably. Rip the lugs out of a Glock frame, and they'll replace it no questions asked. Seen it done to two guns with over 100,000 rounds through them, all of them the owners reloads. So I really don't worry about it.

The lighter spring gets the recoil impulse finished quickly enough that your hands don't have TIME to move upward, if that makes sense. Or at least that's how it feels.

All I know is that a light spring works.

Cool deal, think I'll give it a shot. Have to order some mag springs anyway, might as well add a recoil spring to the mix. S&W has a lifetime warranty, so good to go.:smokin:
